The Jets are favorites at home on Halloween. Trick or treat? The Texans might feel mischievous with the insulting line, as the Jets are in incredible disarray. Injuries could be to blame but the Texans will be looking to crash the Halloween party at MetLife Stadium as the New York hosts Houston. Let’s cover the full injury report, some statistics, and betting odds for the primetime affair.

Texans vs. Jets Same Game Parlay Preview

DraftKings Sportsbook graciously presents the Jets as 1.5-point betting favorites at home on Thursday. While this normally means the Texans would be favored on a neutral field, a Jets’ spread with a minus sign in front is pretty tough to fathom given the current state of affairs in New York. Aaron Rodgers seems to be steering the ship into oblivion, and bettors noticed. Per ScoresAndOdds, nearly 90% of betting action is on the Houston side of the betting spread.

The line opened at +1 for the Jets, and despite all of the bets, the number continues to move toward New York. I feel like I am in a simulation, as surely the Jets cannot be giving points to any team in the NFL, let alone a 6-2 division leader. The Texans continue to adapt with C.J. Stroud under center and endure injuries to key positions. Perhaps Halloween could pose the toughest test to date.

Stefon Diggs will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The loss is a big blow to the Texans offense that continues to play without Nico Collins. The Texans will likely look to feed Joe Mixon, but in the passing game, we should see plenty of Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz in the absence of Diggs and Collins. The Texans will also miss Dameon Pierce, OL Jarrett Patterson, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, and S Jimmie Ward. Even with all of the injuries, the Texans should still be favored against a Jets team that was just outclassed by the New England Patriots.

The Jets didn’t receive great news on the injury front this week. C.J. Mosley and Leki Fotu are both out. Joe Mixon already drew a favorable matchup against the Jets, who look far better statistically against the run then they seem on television. Mixon will have a softer interior to work against. Greg Zuerlein has a knee injury so the Jets signed Riley Patterson to compete with Spencer Shrader for kicking duties. Safety Tony Adams and Allen Lazard will also miss the Halloween action. The defense might struggle to take advantage of a weakened Texans passing game.

The Jets possess one of the top-ranked pass defenses in the NFL, allowing only 5.8 yards per pass attempt. The Texans rank ahead of the Jets, allowing only 5.4 yards per pass attempt. Both defenses bottle up receivers on the outside. The Jets have allowed only 63 receptions to the wide receiver position. Despite this, the Jets still struggle to make stops on defense and struggle to stop the ground game.

The Texans are likely to attack the Jets on the ground with Mixon. Mixon has totaled 25 or more carries in three of his healthy games in 2024. The Texans are not shy about using their free-agent acquisition and continue to attack defenses with a balanced offense. In other primetime games, we have seen the likes of Ray Davis and Najee Harris run right over the Jets. Mixon might be tonight’s ladder play.

davante-adams-800x480

Davante Adams has not gotten anything going since joining the Jets. With a handful of targets and a few catches, Jets fans are waiting for Adams to be the key to a change in New York. With the season on the cusp of conclusion for the Jets, we shouldn’t be shocked to see Adams peppered in the short game against a stout Texans defense. Breece Hall should be featured but the Texans have allowed the 11th-fewest rushing yards to the running back position. Aaron Rodgers is likely going to throw, and with a few weeks of work under his belt, Adams should be ready for a few extra targets.

Will the Jets treat their fans? Will the Texans overcome injuries? Let’s build a same game parlay for Halloween to sweat along with Thursday Night Football.

Same Game Parlay Picks for Texans vs. Jets

Joe Mixon Over 83.5 Rushing Yards

If you read this article, you knew this was coming quickly. Mixon draws an incredible matchup in a week where the Texans really need their running back to carry the load. Dameon Pierce isn’t available, and the wide receiving corps is at its weakest against a strong pass defense. Mixon should be fed.

The Jets rank way higher in yards per rush attempt than we would think (given some of the performances allowed in 2024). That said, Mixon is a true workhorse back, and the Texans coaching staff will be content to settle for five yards per carry. If DeMeco Ryans wants to approach this game like the Steelers, look for incredible defense and an emphasis on running the football.

Let’s ladder Mixon.

Tank Dell Over 4.5 Receptions

Somebody has to catch the football against the Jets. While we are hoping Mixon does all of the work, the Texans will need to keep the Jets honest with a few throws. Tank Dell works all over the field and is explosive enough to make plays. Given the volume of targets Dell and Dalton Schultz might receive, 5 catches could be on the low end.

The Jets do not get beat deep in the secondary. Even down two safeties, I expect the Texans to focus underneath. I don’t love targeting Dell’s yardage total and instead hope Dell assumes some of Diggs’ work underneath with short crossing routes.

Davante Adams Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

With nothing left to lose, I am convinced Adams is going to be a focal point of the Jets offense. The Aaron Rodgers experiment is continuing to melt down. Instead of adjusting, the Jets will likely pull out all of the stops to show Rodgers + Adams was a great idea.

Adams increased his target share but has played against two tough defenses. I anticipate his targets will increase with Allen Lazard out and Breece Hall bottled up. While Adams isn’t the most athletic receiver with respect to speed, 57 yards isn’t that much if he amasses 8-10 catches.

The Jets need a win, and they need to win with Adams. The Jets crowd will not be patient. This could get ugly without a great game from Adams. I am taking the over.
