Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Notes
In case you missed it, in Week 3, Justin Herbert pitched the football back to Keenan Allen, who threw a touchdown pass to a wide-open Mike Williams. This was the cherry on top of his eighteen receptions for 215 yards. Even without personally getting into the end zone, Allen ended up as the highest-scoring fantasy football WR in PPR leagues. Through three weeks, Allen now leads the league in receptions. He draws another juicy matchup at home against the Las Vegas Raiders. Mike Williams is out for the season, and the Chargers will also be without the services of Austin Ekeler. Allen is my top WR play of the week.
Even though Keenan Allen has the most receptions so far in 2023, he doesn’t have the most targets. Puka Nacua does. Week 3 wasn’t as impressive as Nacua’s previous two outings, but the opportunity is there, and opportunity is paramount (especially in PPR formats). Nacua will be needed to keep up on the road with the Colts.
Circling back to that game between the Raiders and the Chargers: In Week 3, the Chargers gave up the fifth-most fantasy points among wide receivers to Justin Jefferson, and two weeks before that, they let Tyreek Hill run wild on them for the most WR fantasy points that week. Davante Adams is another elite wide receiver who appears to be finding some chemistry with his new quarterback. After an unimpressive season opener, Adams put up respectable numbers in Week 2, and then last week, he more than doubled his PPR fantasy football output from the previous showing. This game currently has the second-highest implied total, and if the Raiders are able to hang with the Chargers (or win outright, as they well could), it will likely be on the shoulders of the Las Vegas’ best pass catcher. Unfortunately, Jimmy Garoppolo is still in the concussion protocol. If he is unable to suit up and Brian Hoyer starts, Adams might not have that opportunity.
Good luck in Week 4!
