Week 6 Fantasy Football Trends for FanDuel

Identifying trends is extremely important to daily fantasy football and online sports betting success. If you want to win your weekly contests and bets, you have to be proactive in identifying trends and figuring out how those trends influence the value of that player and his teammates. This weekly article will attempt to help you in that process by highlighting a couple of players whose values may be trending up and a couple of players who are trending down.

Trending Up

Tevin Coleman ($5,000)

The San Francisco 49ers run game has been absolutely dominant this season regardless of who has been carrying the ball, ranking first in virtually every rushing metric. Week 5 was no different as Tevin Coleman re-entered the mix and carried the ball 16 times for 97 yards and a touchdown. Coleman trailed Breida in yardage (114 yards) but out-carried him 16-to-11 and handled 47.1% of the 49ers RB carries.

While Coleman is unlikely to find himself running away with running back touches, he remains underpriced for his current expected role in San Francisco’s offense. Add in San Francisco’s overall run game efficiency, ranking first in adjusted yard lines, and Coleman’s likely role as the goal-line back and you have one of Week 6’s top value plays of the slate.

Chase Edmonds ($5,200)

The size of Chase Edmonds’ role is almost entirely dependent on the health of David Johnson who is entering Week 6 with a back injury that limited him in Week 5 against the Bengals. When Johnson has been fully healthy this season, Edmonds hasn’t seen much of the field with snap-rates of 11.4%, 12%, and 20.6%. However, when DJ has been limited due to injury, Edmonds’ role has unsurprisingly increased, with a 40.4% snap-rate in Week 2 and a 36.5% snap-rate in Week 5. When given the opportunity, Edmonds has produced, including parlaying 11 Week 5 touches into 86 yards and a touchdown.

It’s tough to justify rostering Edmonds if Johnson is expected to be a full go come Sunday but any sort of reduced role for DJ could mean a massive fantasy day for the Cardinals backup RB.

Trending Down

LeSean McCoy ($6,400)

The return of Damien Williams inevitably meant bad things for LeSean McCoy’s fantasy value but I was a bit surprised to see McCoy was only on the field for 14-of-61 snaps in Sunday night’s loss to the Colts. Notably, game-script wasn’t in Shady’s favor as the Chiefs were surprisingly playing from behind for a large portion of the game. Also notable was McCoy losing a bad fumble in the third quarter. While I don’t expect McCoy’s snap-rate to dip this low in games where the Chiefs are playing with the lead it is important to realize Damien Williams is RB1 in this offense and his playing time is much less reliant on game script.

Julio Jones ($8,500)

Let me start by saying this isn’t a recommendation to fade Julio Jones this week in a perfect get right spot against the fast-paced Arizona Cardinals. What this is is more a statement of astonishment at how uninvolved Julio Jones has been in the Falcons offense this season. Through five weeks, Julio has a target share of just 20% for Atlanta. That 20% share barely beats out Austin Hooper (19%), Mohamed Sanu (14%) and Calvin Ridley (14%). There are so many mouths to feed in this Falcons offense that it’s tough to envision Jones returning to the commanding target share numbers he saw the past five (28%, 28%, 27%, 33%, 27%).

Again, this is not to say Julio won’t have spiked weeks of production, and one could very likely be this week against Arizona, but rather to indicate he’s no longer the consistent, matchup-proof plug and play DFS option that he once was.
