Week 7 NFL GPP Recap: Rodgers' Resurrection

Week 7 was an odd one. Among other things, we saw several key injuries, a handful of slate-breaking performances in the early slate, horrendous NFL Weather conditions, a key ejection, and a team flat-out lie about their star running backs availability.

The 1PM games kicked off, and it didn’t take long for most DFS’ers to become highly irritated as Chase Edmonds, who by all available news was going to be back to his back-up role behind the “active” David Johnson, knocked out two 20-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter. He would later add a third and rack up 127 yards on the ground in total (and 24 more through the air). He was almost certainly late-swamped out of more lineups than any player today, so this one stung. What makes it sting worse? The Arizona Cardinals official twitter account trolling everyone. Not cool. I fixed it for them.

In other early games, we saw Aaron Rodgers post perhaps his best ever game from a DFS perspective, Marvin Jones Jr. haul in four touchdown passes from Matthew Stafford (while Kenny Golladay had just one single reception), Latavius Murray put up Alvin Kamara like numbers as a fill-in,
and Dalvin Cook contining to put up big numbers week after week. By the end of the early games, if you didn’t have a Rodgers stack with one or more of his pass-catching options (not named almost chalk Allen Lazard), you were probably drawing dead…. specially this week since the 4PM games were sorta duds for the most part from a DFS perspective.

A few things on my mind as we prepare for SNF;

1) Things are bad in Atlanta. Matt Ryan left the stadium in a walking boot and Devonta Freeman actually thinks it’s wise to pick a fight with Aaron Donald. It took a garbage time connection from Matt Schaub to Austin Hooper for them to finally find the end zone today and they’re now 1-6. I certainly didn’t see this coming.

2) Chicago’s offense is a disaster. Trubisky doesn’t look confident or capable at the moment, and their running game is non-existent.

3) Andy Dalton has flashes where he actually looks decent, and then throws some of the dumbest passes. I don’t think they’re the worst team in the NFL and they’ll get A.J. Green back soon…. But I could see a scenario where their Week 16 game in Miami finds both teams still looking for their first win of the season.

4) As a Detroit Lions fan, this has been a rough six days stretch. Well, actually, I guess this is just what being a Detroit Lions fan is at this point.

5) As I was sulking about Detroit once again, I watched the end of the Chargers game. Geesh… that team finds odd ways to lose close games.

Most of the chalk performed admirably, but nearly all of the massive scores today, especially from the QB’s, came from guys who saw very little ownership.

With very little margin for error, user emitnulb held on to win the FanDuel Millionaire Maker. You’ll notice a trend today, but this lineup was anchored by Aaron Rodgers stacked with Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Darren Waller. This even included Packers running back Aaron Jones. Marvin Jones Jr. helped push this lineup to the top of the leaderboard, but anyone who doubts the merit of large team stacks in DFS NFL needs to reevaluate things after tonight. Congrats to emitnulb!

NFL $3.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st] – g0aky

As you’d expect, Aaron Rodgers and his 46.76 DK Fantasy Points helped lead this lineup past 411,763 competitors. Rather than a full stack, we only saw Jimmy Graham paired with Rodgers here, leaving the likes of Latavious Murray, Marvin Jones Jr. and Dalvin Cook to bring things home. The lowest scoring player here, Eric Ebron, made perhaps the greatest individual play of the entire weekend.
