What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.0
- Favored Team – CIN -116
Pitcher Grind Down
CHI – Matt Garza risk and reward pitcher tonight. This will be his 5th start of the season so all of his rust should be shaken off by now. He is pitching in Wrigley Field where he pitched very well last season. The matchup against the Reds isn’t particularly great as he only managed to last 4 innings against them a couple starts ago. But Garza is a high strikeout pitcher averaging right around 9 K’s per 9 innings. In Play
CIN – Tony Cingrani pitched pretty well earlier in the season and I expect him to be even better this time around as he gets the call up once again. The Cubs have been awful against lefties this season with a batting average of .236. I think this is a great spot for the young rookie, especially if he is priced around the middle of the pitchers. Target
Batter Grind Down
CHI – Don’t expect a ton of offense in this one. Two solid pitchers with high K%‘s usually isn’t great for offensive fireworks. However, if you believe in BvP, Alfonso Soriano already has 3 HR’s off of Cingrani so take that how you want.
CIN – I think Garza pitches well in this one. This is one of the few times where I just want to avoid the Reds offense completely.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9.5
- Favored Team – TEX -159
Pitcher Grind Down
TEX – This game has Texas written all over it and I’m a bit surprised that the line is only -159. Derek Holland has been great all season long, even at home where he has posted a 2.34 ERA. His K rate is at 8.64 per 9 innings which is very good. He faces the Indians who have a good offense, but they have really been slumping. Target
CLE – Corey Kluber is not a name that you will see on any of my rosters tonight. Avoid
Batter Grind Down
TEX – Start your stack and mini stack engines. All of the Rangers are in play tonight. One sneaky pick that I am really high on is A.J. Pierzynski.
CLE – The Indians have been in a terrible slump. Swisher, Brantley, and Reynolds have all gone missing. Carlos Santana is about the only Indian that you need to think about taking tonight. He is batting .297 against lefties and has a good history against Holland.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – DET -150
Pitcher Grind Down
KC – Wade Davis is not a pitcher that I like to use even when he has a good matchup. Tonight he has a terrible matchup against the Tigers. There’s just not much to like for Davis. Avoid
DET – Max Scherzer is one of the best fantasy pitchers in the game. His 10.83 K’s per 9 innings is up there with the best of the best. The only downside here is that Scherzer makes his money by getting K’s and the Royals don’t K very often. In fact, only one team has less strikeouts than the Royals and that is the Giants. I still think Scherzer will be able to get 5-7 K’s, but it’s something to keep in mind if you are thinking about paying that price for him. In Play
Batter Grind Down
KC – Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon have both hit Scherzer well in the past, but Salvador Perez really seems to have his number. He is 6/9 against Scherzer with 2 HR’s and a double. I doubt many people will take the Royals bats today, so they could provide good value in these big qualifiers.
DET – Miguel Cabrera doesn’t seem to ever have a bad game or a bad matchup. Last night he hit his 18th HR of the season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him add another one tonight against Davis who he already has 2 HR’s off of. If I were a betting man, I would take the over on this game because I think the Tigers are in a great spot.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9.0
- Favored Team – CWS -126
Pitcher Grind Down
CWS – Jose Quintana has been a tough pitcher to read. His ERA, WHIP, and K rate are all pretty decent, yet he is never a pitcher that I like to take unless he faces one of the less talented offenses. At the end of the day I think Quintana is a fairly average pitcher that has a bad matchup against the Jays. Avoid
TOR – Chien-Ming Wang just got signed by the Blue Jays and it doesn’t sound like the Jays expect him to stay around for too long. Wang was a below average pitcher last season with an ERA close to 7 and I don’t expect that to change this season. Save yourself the trouble and stay far away. Avoid
Batter Grind Down
CWS – There is a lot to like about this matchup for the White Sox, especially the left handed bats. Wang allowed lefties to hit for a .413 average last season with an OPS of 1.210. Just insane numbers for lefties against him. For that reason, I am getting both De Aza and Dunn in my lineup tonight. In addition to them, I think the rest of the White Sox are in play as well.
TOR – Joey Bats hit two HR’s yesterday in Chicago and does have a HR off of Quintana in the past. He seems to hit HR’s in bunches so it might be one of those nights where you roll with the hot bat.

PHI vs R | PHI BvP | MIN vs L | MIN BvP | ||||||
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.0
- Favored Team – PHI -110
Pitcher Grind Down
MIN – This line seems a bit screwy to me so maybe Vegas knows something that I don’t. But what I do know is that P.J. Walters ERA is much lower than his other pitching stats would suggest. His ERA is only at 3 yet his WHIP is at 1.667. I expect that to catch up to him soon, probably tonight. Avoid
PHI – Cole Hamels had a great start in his last outing, yes it was against the Marlins but maybe he just needed a little confidence boost to get him going. I wouldn’t pay top dollar for him considering his struggles on the road, but if he is around the middle range price-wise, he is a decent option. In Play
Batter Grind Down
MIN – The Twins are a tough team offensively. They seem to love making good pitchers struggle and that could happen again tonight against Hamels. The Twins do have quite a few left handed bats though.
PHI – Domonic Brown and Ryan Howard. Those have been the only two Phillies we have been talking about lately and they are the two that you want to target tonight. Both feast on average right hand pitchers and are in play against P.J. Walters.
