What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

BAL – As crazy as it is, this is now two days in a row where an Orioles pitcher is one of the top plays. Chen threw a great game against the Astros last night and I think Miguel Gonzalez will do the same tonight. The Astros really struggle against right hand pitching and love to strike out. You won’t find many bigger favorites. Rating = 10

HOUErik Bedard has really pitched well in his last 3 starts and has only allowed 4 earned runs combined over that stretch. But guess what his record was over those starts, 0-3. He has the disadvantage of playing on a bad team. Rating = 2

Batter Grind Down

BAL – Bedard has been pitching better, but his numbers on the season have not been good. He has really struggled against left hand bats so target Chris Davis if you can afford him. Matt Wieters is another guy to roster as he hits for great power against lefties.

HOU – Ignore the Astros bats, too many strike outs and not enough power.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

PIT – If my memory serves me right, I believe the Pirates are going for a 4 game sweep of the Cardinals tonight. Vegas expects this one to be a very close, very low scoring game. Jeff Locke has been good all season, but many have predicted his luck to run out during the second half of the season. The Cardinals hit lefties well and I think their bats come alive tonight. Rating = 3

STL – I’m a bit surprised that Adam Wainwright isn’t a bigger favorite in this one. The Cardinals really hit left hand pitching well and Wainwright has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. I think Wainwright and the Cardinals have a big night and pick up the win to avoid the sweep. Rating = 8

Batter Grind Down

PIT – Give Wainwright a pitcher’s ball park and it’s hard to take batters against him.

STL – The Cards should be able to put up some runs on Locke tonight. They have some of the best bats in baseball against lefties in Allen Craig and Yadier Molina.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

TBJeremy Hellickson has really turned it on lately. He is 4-0 in his last 5 starts and hasn’t given up more than 6 hits in any of those starts. After Roberto Hernandez threw a complete game against the D-Backs last night, you have to love the upside for Hellickson tonight who has a much better K rate than Hernandez. Rating = 8

ARIWade Miley had a rough start to the season, but has had an ERA under 3.00 over the last two months. I don’t love the matchup for him today though as the Rays are one of the best hitting teams against left hand pitching.

Batter Grind Down

TB – The Rays have never faced Miley before so it may take them the second time through the lineup to do some damage but guys like Desmond Jennings, Evan Longoria, and Ben Zobrist all are good against lefties and are all playable.

ARI – Hellickson has really pitched well lately and the D-Backs are not a great offense on the road. Expect a lot of K’s =.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

ATL – I really like the spot for Mike Minor today. He is pitching at home where he is a much better pitcher and he is facing a Rockies lineup that isn’t the same away from Coors. He has been really good in his last 3 starts and I think that continues tonight. Rating = 8

COL – The Rockies pitching staff has really had a tough time in Atlanta. They have to hope that Tyler Chatwood has more success than Nicasio and De La Rosa did. Chatwood has been one of the most underrated pitchers all season long. Would you believe that he has a 2.48 ERA on the season? I think he pitches well but comes up short on getting the win. Rating = 5

Batter Grind Down

ATL – Chatwood has been good, but that has to come to an end right? Luckily for the Braves, they have a lot of left hand bats that get the splits in their favor. I wouldn’t load up on Braves, but both Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward look like solid plays.

COL – Anytime they face a lefty, Troy Tulowitzki is in play, but I really like Minor in this one. I think he could throw a shutout.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

MIAHenderson Alvarez has a good matchup against the Mets, but he can be ignored for our purposed. The upside just isn’t there and the Marlins often fail to give their pitchers run support. Rating = 3

NYMJenrry Mejia had a very good first start after his call up from the minors. He threw seven scoreless innings against the Nationals and racked up 7 K’s. Not bad for a day’s work. I don’t know much about this guy, but he has pitched well in the minors and looked good in his first start. I think he could be worth a flier if he is cheap enough. Rating = 5

Batter Grind Down

MIA – With young pitchers like Mejia, it’s hard to know what to expect. He could pitch well again or come out and get blown up so I’m not I’m a bit mixed on the Marlins. Giancarlo Stanton is about the only player I would trust tonight.

NYM – So much for my Ike Davis HR call yesterday, I should have known better than to trust Ike. Alvarez really struggles against left hand bats though so maybe Ike’s bomb is coming tonight. Target him and Daniel Murphy.
