The Field Report: Week 6

The field report is designed to give you a look into the most popular plays from FanDuel’s Thursday Night games. In order to truly separate your entry from the rest of the field, you need to create a very unique roster. In GPP’s especially, playing along with the rest of your opponents will not get you anywhere. The rules are much different in H2H’s and 50/50’s, but in tournaments where you need to beat ALL of your opponents (e.g. major qualifiers), you need to take risks and use at least a few players that will be lightly owned.

For those of you that might be unfamiliar with how to approach these large-field GPP’s, I will run through an example. Lets say you roster Dez Bryant, and he is owned by 40% of the field. When he scores a touchdown, not only does it push you further towards first place, but it also helps out 40% of the tournament, thus disabling you from jumping a large number of your opponents in the standings. Now lets say you also rostered Austin Pettis. Pettis is only owned by 2% of the league, so when he scores a long touchdown, you are one of only a few entries that benefit. To sum it up, if you want to take down a big tournament, you need to have a few players on your roster who have huge days, but aren’t rostered by many other players. Those low percentage plays are what seperate you from the rest of the field.

We must also take into account that many daily players use a high percentage of selections on the Thursday Night players, so the actual percentages for the players listed below will be on average higher than what is listed here. If you see a large portion of your roster on this list, then you need to become more creative and look outside the box for a few new players.

In order to get these percentages, I entered two Fanduel $2 Thursday GPP’s and counted the bottom 50% of participants (because they have the least number of Thursday players) and then calculated % owned for each player based on that information.
