MLB Player Props Today

Alek Manoah u5.5 strikeouts (-155), BetMGM

In 2022, Alek Manoah had an 18.9% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters. In a small sample size to begin 2023, Manoah has a 15.8% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters and has been tattooed by both sides of the platoon in terms of hard contact. This afternoon, the Tampa Bay Rays have six left-handed bats in the lineup against Manoah and the strikeout-averse Alfonso Marquez is calling balls and strikes behind the plate. Sunday baseball can be unpredictable at times, with shadows playing a role and teams often using today as a rest day for key bats. Nonetheless, the under makes a ton of sense here.

Grayson Rodriguez u17.5 outs recorded (-145), DraftKings

The only reason that this market number is this high is due to the fact that the Baltimore Orioles bullpen is extremely taxed. In the last three days, Yennier Cano, Danny Coulombe, Bryan Baker, Cionel Perez, and Felix Bautista have each pitched twice. Still, Grayson Rodriguez has yet to pitch into the sixth inning of a game in the big leagues, which is largely a product of him allowing far too much traffic on the basepaths – 1.62 WHIP against left-handed batters and a 1.60 WHIP against right-handed batters. Baltimore would love for Rodriguez to get deep into this ballgame, but the reality is that Rodriguez has struggled to put hitters away, which has escalated his pitch count. Rodriguez is also someone who has never thrown 100 innings in a single season, so the Orioles are in a position to potentially limit Rodriguez’s workload even if he is effective. Take the under in this spot.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Josh Bell less than 0.5 hitter strikeouts, PrizePicks

Last season, Josh Bell struck out in only 14.3% of his plate appearances against left-handed pitching. Today, he gets to face Patrick Corbin, who has struck out only 9.5% of right-handed batters so far to begin 2023. In 2022, Corbin had a meager 18.4% strikeout rate against right-handed hitters. The Washington Nationals bullpen ranks 27th out of 30 teams in strikeout percentage as a unit less than a month into the new campaign. Trust Bell to put the ball in play or to draw a walk each time he steps into the box this afternoon.
