MLB Player Props – Rangers vs. Astros
- Yordan Alvarez o1.5 total bases
- Jeremy Pena o1.5 total bases
- Alex Bregman more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
Yordan Alvarez o1.5 total bases (+110), DraftKings
Typically, it is wise to avoid taking the over on total base props for left-handed hitters against left-handed pitchers, but Yordan Alvarez is an exception to the rule. In 2022, Alvarez had a .321 batting average, .998 OPS, .265 ISO, and a 183 wRC+ when facing southpaws. Tonight’s starter, Andrew Heaney, is tougher on left-handed hitters than he is on right-handed hitters, but some guys are simply too talented for us to get lost in the weeds of the advanced metrics. Alvarez is one of the premier hitters in the league – trust him to put on a show on national television. He should also get at least one at-bat against someone other than Heaney in the late innings today.
Jeremy Pena o1.5 total bases (+140), DraftKings
Early in Jeremy Pena’s career, it has become increasingly evident that he is going to do the majority of his mashing against southpaws. Facing left-handed pitching, Pena owns a .286 batting average, .846 OPS, .227 ISO, and a 138 wRC+, compared to a .237 batting average, .663 OPS, .153 ISO, and an 86 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Andrew Heaney had a 4.05 FIP and allowed more than two home runs per nine innings of work last year against right-handed batters. Expect Pena to have a productive evening at the dish on Sunday Night Baseball.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Alex Bregman more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs, PrizePicks
Alex Bregman is off to an abysmal start to the 2023 season, but a date with a left-handed hurler might be exactly what he needs to get himself back on track. In his career, Bregman owns a .296 batting average, .911 OPS, .227 ISO, and a 148 wRC+ against left-handed pitching – each of which is superior to his numbers against right-handed pitching. If using PrizePicks to attack this game, taking Bregman’s combination stats to include hits, runs, and runs-batted-in could be a worthwhile endeavor tonight against Heaney and the Texas Rangers arm barn.
