NBA Player Props, January 4, 2023

Jordan Poole o28.5 points (-117)

When Jordan Poole plays basketball and Stephen Curry is not in the lineup, we will bet the over on Poole’s points prop. In each of the nine games that Poole has played since Curry suffered a left shoulder injury, he has attempted at least 17 shots. He enters play tonight with five consecutive games of at least 20 shot attempts, with inefficiency rather than lack of usage being his primary risk factor. Inefficiency should be less of a concern on Tuesday evening against a Detroit Pistons defense that ranked 26th in defensive efficiency, 19th in opponent three-point attempts, and 25th in opponent three-point percentage during the month of December. Take the over here and live with the result.

DeMar DeRozan o26.5 points (-115)

Per EdgHouse, DeMar DeRozan has eclipsed this number in 20-of-37 games played this year (54.1% hit-rate), including 15-of-23 games played since November 16 (65.2% hit-rate), and 9-of-14 games played since December 7 (64.3% hit-rate). This evening, DeRozan gets a matchup against a Brooklyn Nets defense that is beatable in the mid-range, which is where he attempts roughly half of his shot attempts on a nightly basis. In Brooklyn’s last 17 games, they rank 18th in opponent field goal percentage on mid-range attempts. Taking the over on DeRozan’s points is a worthwhile risk in this spot.

Thomas Bryant o12.5 points (-120)

Per CourtIQ, Thomas Bryant is averaging 20.4 points per 36 minutes of action this season when Anthony Davis is on the sidelines. In nine games since Davis last played on December 16, Bryant has eclipsed this market number six times, and has received at least 30 minutes of playing time on six separate occasions. Following back-to-back games with 18 points or more and at least 34 minutes of action, it is evident that Bryant is establishing a larger role for himself within the Los Angeles Lakers offensive attack. Take advantage of this mispriced line before sportsbooks begin to adjust to his increased workload.
