On Sunday Night Football, the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will battle in a rivalry game at Raymond James Stadium. Though New Orleans enters play below .500, they remain only one game out of the sixth playoff seed in the NFC. Following five consecutive losses from Week 9 to Week 13, the Saints won last week against the New York Jets and will be hoping to make it two in a row this evening. Tampa Bay has won four consecutive games as they continue to make a push for the top seed in the NFC playoff picture. As we approach kickoff, the value on the spread and the total has been reduced compared to its opening market price. Instead of forcing action on saturated markets, bettors may find more expected value on player props for this Thursday Night Football game.
Saints vs. Buccaneers Player Props
Chris Godwin o80.5 receiving yards (-110)
When these two teams met earlier in the season, Chris Godwin totaled 8 receptions, 140 receiving yards, and a touchdown on 12 targets. Godwin lines up primarily in the slot for the Buccaneers, meaning that he will draw a lot of coverage in this one from the unimpressive Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, who is one of the worst slot cornerbacks in the entire NFL. Further increasing the likelihood of Godwin having a strong performance is the continued absence of Antonio Brown, and the fact that Mike Evans will be shadowed by the elite Marshon Lattimore on the outside. Bettors can expect another big day from Godwin this evening.
Taysom Hill u209.5 passing yards (-110)
Though the Saints secured a win against the New York Jets last Sunday, it was not because of “(player-popup #taysom-hill)Taysom Hill”:/players/taysom-hill-36873’s arm. An intriguing weapon to have on the roster, Hill becomes more of a liability when teams are able to gameplan for him as a starting quarterback, who will be on the field for the entirety of the game. Carlton Davis is back on the field for the Buccaneers, elevating Tampa Bay’s secondary unit to one of the best in the league. A porous offensive line and a tough matchup are likely to result in an under here.
Taysom Hill o9.5 rushing attempts (-114)
Hill has started two games this fall, totaling 11 rushing attempts in each trip to the field. Against an improving Tampa Bay secondary unit, Hill is going to find it extremely difficult to find success through the air in this one–especially considering the poor pass protection of his offensive line and the uninspiring talent of his skill position players. The result is likely to mean at least a handful of designed runs and a few scrambles. Hill should get to this number once again on Sunday.
Rob Gronkowski – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+125)
Rob Gronkowski has scored six touchdowns in only eight games this season, with two of those games being contests in which he was forced to exit early due to injury. Gronkowski has seen at least eight targets in four consecutive games. Against a defense featuring a lockdown secondary unit, Brady could look to his tight end in the middle of the field even more frequently than usual. At plus-money, this is a play that bettors should strongly consider.
