Big Events Breakdown: The Biggest Night in DFS To Date?

rg misc tournament recap image small

In the forums on Friday night an interesting question was brought up. Was Friday the 13th the biggest night in the history of daily fantasy sports? Now I don’t feel as if I am justified to answer such a deep question, as I have only been involved in the realm of DFS since last October or so, but it is certainly something to think about. We had the final DFBC qualifier for a chance to win $100,000, an $11 DSBC qualifier, the 2nd King’s Crown Qualifier event, the DraftKings $15K Mid-Summer Classic, and the Profanity LVH SuperContest. I hope I’m not forgetting anything, but all in all it comes out to a massive amount of guaranteed prizes, trips and more. I would tend to think that this is just the beginning of many more nights like this to come, and that the daily fantasy world is just starting to blossom. We can hope that this will soon be the norm in daily fantasy, but for now we are stuck wondering if that was the biggest night to date. So let’s take a look at some numbers before we break down the events from Friday.

The Facts of Friday the 13th

So at the very least, there were the possibilities to round up close to $150K in prizes on Friday night. Yes, it would take the perfect night across each site to do so, but the chance was there. That’s absolutely incredible, so let’s find out who stepped up to the plate and hit a home-run on Friday. Unfortunately, no one hit the Grand Slam + 1(which is what I would have loved to name someone winning all five major events this weekend).

Final DFBC Qualifier To Vegas

dfbcfinalqual

Hate to break it to you, but the DFBC final event in beautiful Las Vegas is filled. While I will be going, it will be to document those players who are far superior to myself rather than to compete against them. The final qualifying spot was a tight race, but at the end of the day Cardog777 is your winner. Cardog777 was able to hold off the competition thanks to a marvelous pitching performance from Francisco Liriano didn’t even get the win!!) and still hung up 20 fantasy points. David Ross, Ryan Braun, Andrew McCutchen and Mike Trout all contributed big nights as well to push Cardog777 to victory. It was a near flawless performance, as all but 2 of his players scored more than 7 points and his final total was 84.75. But we can’t go without mentioning the incredible performance of one of the most well-known Grinders around, RotoKevin. Kevin fought valiantly in an effort to pack his bags for Vegas as Grinder Nation stood behind him, but he fell 5 points short. A big performance from Franklin Morales could’ve sent RotoKevin to Vegas but the pitch count got too high and the Brewers stack fell short. Great effort from RotoKevin and congrats to Cardog777, we look forward to seeing you on the strip(look at me acting like I’m a Vegas expert).

DSBC $11 Qualifier #30

dsqualifier30

Ten spots remain in the DSBC and the most recent spot was stolen away by an all-time favorite fantasy team name of mine, VinegarStrokes. Without trying to be too vulgar, I’m sure VinegarStrokes was living up to his name after he was able to hold on for a 1.4 point victory in the 500 man contest. His team was comprised of a White Sox stack, Liriano, A.J. Griffin and Ricky Romero. Dayan Viciedo and Paul Konerko carried the hitting load en route to a 85.95 point win. Second place went to SportsGarage who also stacked the same White Sox players and actually outscored VinegarStrokes from a pitching stand point by 6 points. The difference is in the details though, as Joey Votto went 0-4 for SportsGarage and Buster Posey hung 7 fantasy points up. That was the difference and for that, VinegarStrokes is headed the the DSBC finals. As a reminder, there are only 10 spots left for the DSBC so be sure to sign up to DraftStreet now if you haven’t already and work to earn yourself one of those final seats. The first place winner takes home $35K and VinegarStrokes just won a chance to parlay $11 into $35 large.

DraftKings $15K Mid-Summer Classic

dkmidsummerclassic

One of the most highly talked about events here at RG was the DraftKings $15K Mid-Summer Classic. Just days after the official Mid-Summer Classic, the site known for overlay and big money games stepped to the plate again and challenged Grinder Nation to do their best with a chance at $3K. But it was an unknown player who apparently qualified through a FACEBOOK ADVERTISEMENT that was able to win the big bucks. MicroSusie was magnificent on Friday night as she struck gold with Dayan Viciedo, Mark Teixeira and Neil Walker. A mostly White Sox stack was the key, but Teixeira’s huge night was the difference. Her closest competition was Kempster123 who picked the highest scoring player of the night on DK, Ryan Braun. But Matt Holliday had a quiet evening and his mere 2 fantasy points on the high-scoring DraftKings setup was not enough to overtake MicroSusie. So congrats to her on the big win and we look forward to more DraftKings promos coming up! They just ran another $5K Clash that launched tonight at 7PM and are looking to continue huge events similar to this every single week. Get excited Grinders as you have a great shot at some free money!

The Profanity LVH SuperContest

lvhfinal-1
A contest that has been ongoing for months finally came to a close. It slid behind the radar while offering a chance for a trip to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton and an entry worth $1500 in the $750,000 Profanity SuperContest. But pound for pound this is one of the most exciting contests available. The winner of this exciting opportunity was Rosterjunkiescom with a score of 85 points. He just barely outdueled Grinders Beermakersfan and Anonymoose who came in a close 2nd and 3rd with 81.5 and 75.5 points respectively. There were also other notable Grinders in the top of the pack such as DinkPiece in 11th, and TaxiMike who tied for fourth. Congrats, though, to Rosterjunkiescom on the big victory. Be on the look out for more big events from Profanity as the summer unfolds and definitely pay attention to more updates about the SuperContest with the Las Vegas Hilton as the prize pool is said to be $750K!!!

DailyJoust King’s Crown Qualifier

kingscrown2

Another piece of the King’s Crown was won on Friday night as Ron2522 took first place in the 107 man event. To the victor go the spoils, so Ron2522 will find himself sitting at the final event with a chance at taking home the $5K first place prize. This event was so tight that it actually came down to a TIE-BREAKER! The excitement and tension was palpable as Ron2522 rode David Ortiz, Brandon Phillips, Michael Cuddyer and Francisco Liriano to a 87 point performance. But following him every step was FinnFan13 who tied that 87 point mark come the end of the night thanks to a White Sox stack and a solid performance from Franklin Morales. The tie-breaker for big leagues at DailyJoust comes down to a prediction of how many points your fantasy team will score that night and Ron2522 just barely outwitted FinnFan13. This one was about as exciting as it gets folks, so if you haven’t already checked out the King’s Crown tournament you need to be doing so this Friday.

That wraps up the Weekly Breakdown of the Major Events, check back in next week for more DSBC, King’s Crown and hopefully other HUGE events across the daily fantasy world! Good luck and keep grinding!
