Contests Dashboard NBA DFS Slate Review - 1/31/22

There’s no chalk quite like NBA chalk.

A ton of it opened up prior to Monday’s daily fantasy basketball slate and most of it crushed.

Let’s break down the slate using Contests Dashboard (powered by FantasyLabs) to see where DFS players went right and where they wrong.

Ownership in the DK $400K Fadeaway

Andre Drummond ($3,700, 62.25 DKP) was 78% owned, while Isaiah Jackson ($4,100, 46.50 DKP) was 54% in the contest with 31,372 total entries. OKC’s Josh Giddey ($7,300, 36.50 DKP) came in at 40%, while Tobias Harris ($7,800, 47.75 DKP) checked in at 37%.

Tyrese Maxey ($6,600, 57.75 DKP) had a career ceiling game, which also helped break the slate with his 20% ownership. In all, Monday’s chalk-fest featured six players with at least 20% ownership, who tallied at least 45 DKP.

jsteed22 has massive night

Despite having to eat a ton of chalk to complete a winning lineup on Monday, a pair of single-digit owned plays helped jsteed22 take down $100K in the Fadeaway. His winning lineup scored 401 points.

Most impressively, despite all of the high ownership, jsteed was unique for the win.

Drummond, Harris and Maxey were all necessary from the Joel Embiid-less 76ers, in a game against the Grizzlies — who play fast, but are typically good defensively. Doesn’t it seem like when there’s mega chalk in the same game, it always goes to overtime?

However, I absolutely love jsteed’s game-stack here with a 3% Desmond Bane hitting his ceiling, and making a world of difference to help mitigate some ownership. The 76ers were “the right plays” and Bane was a sharp way to get unique. Somewhere, Grant Neiffer is smiling…

However, not only did jsteed takedown the Fadeaway, he also finished third for another $15,000, en route to collecting a $116,985 ROI. HUGE night!

Jsteed’s bronze team, with 394.25 points, was a two-player swap from his winning team. He paired the combination of Delon Wright and Josh Giddey instead of Bogdan Bogdanovic and Luguentz Dort.

A look at his pool

Jsteed, who played 150 entries in the contest, was very aggressive on “the right plays.” Jsteed hit the lock button on Drummond, was 30% overweight on Isaiah Jackson, 24% over on Tobias Harris and 36% over on stud Steph Curry — who were all in the winning lineup.

My favorite part of about his player pool is that he was also overweight on the plays that he liked — not just “the right plays.” After Trae Young was ruled out, roughly 25 minutes before roster lock, I was surprised more of the field didn’t hop on more Hawks exposure. But Jsteed used that late news to his advantage.

Steed was almost 40% overweight on Delon Wright, as the field checked in at 10%, while also a whopping 53% over on Bogdan Bogdanovic, who was only 6%. Bravo, steed!

Steed did all of this damage while only having 7% of Tyrese Maxey, 13% underweight compared to the field.

Out of 67 “150-maxers” in the contest, he had the 10th tightest player pool with 39 of them. A dozen of the “maxers” profited in the contest.

Checking in on a top player

Pettytheft89, top-20 in the RG rankings, was one of the dozen 150-maxers who profited in the contest on Monday. His best lineup finished in 11th with 384.25 points, but he logged 11 teams in the top 1% — same amount as jsteed.

Petty had a 3-0 stack of the slate-breaking 76ers on his best five lineups. He was also very aggressive with some of the chalk, but also on a few contrarian plays.

Regarding the Sixers, Petty also locked in Drummond, was 53% overweight on Harris and 14% over on Maxey. He was 20% overweight on Isaiah Jackson who was also necessary to make money.

Theft liked Curry, as he was 50% over the field. He also chose to leverage a Hawk in Kevin Huerter (20% exposure, 4% field), who finished with 36 DKP.

Petty’s biggest miss was Torrey Craig (4% field), who he was 50% overweight on.

The winning stack

In the Fadeaway, according to Contests Dashboard, the Sixers 3-0 team stack of Harris, Maxey and Drummond roster construction was just 4.9% owned by the field — and was on 30% of top-1% teams. The 2-0 stack of Harris and Drummond checked in at 15%, while the Maxey-Drummond combo was 7%.

Jsteeds winning 3-1 with Bane was just .1% owned by the field — call it Steed Island.

A glance at higher stakes

User srn828 took down the DK $400K 6th man with 740 entries for $100,000 with just a single bullet!

Contest selection is integral, as you don’t have to be perfect in smaller fields. Srn had “the right 76ers,” but also accompanied them with Seth Curry, who was fine with 28.25 DKP, but wouldn’t have helped in lower stakes, larger field.

Kudos to Srn for running a 4-0 team stack, while nailing the Max Strus play at 5%, who went off for 37.75 DKP without Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry. That specific 4-0 Sixers’ stack was just 1.9% owned by the field in the 6th Man tournament.
