Daily Batter Breakdown: Wed, Jun 4th

Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.
The big baseball tournaments just keep on coming. Along with the survivors going tonight, there’s another big Monster tournament and a $200 DFBC qualifier on FanDuel, a giant Perfect Game on DraftKings, and multiple other solid tournaments happening. Watch out for weather tonight as there are definitely some concerns to deal with.

0.989 0.938 $3,600 $6,533 $10,400 $4,300 $64,500 $6,600 $8,600

Buster Posey

How good Posey is against hitting left handers has been overstated a lot lately but the fact is he has really proven the ability to destroy lefties in his career. He hasn’t hit his strike against lefties much less in general, however his price is really low for him being Buster Posey. He’s against Cingrani today who hasn’t been great this year and really only throws one pitch. I really think in a more hitters park Posey should be able to do some damage.

Anthony Rizzo

Rizzo has been hitting lefties really well this year but still rocks right handers at an .814 OPS clip. His .932 OPS at home is really good as well and I think not enough people are talking about how solid he’s been playing this season. He showed he had double dong power against the Brewers and now gets to hit against Dice-K who has been solid in limited work this year but pardon me if I don’t believe that he’s a dominant pitcher. Rizzo is great at home and should be solid tonight especially if the wind is blowing out.

0.931 0.976 $3,000 $4,432 $8,600 $3,600 $57,600 $6,200 $8,100

Ben Zobrist

It’s really hard to recommend any Rays right now especially after their 8 game losing streak and their issues scoring runs, however they are facing Koehler and they are extremely cheap. Zobrist is at a nice price and I really don’t like Koehler away from home where he has given up as many runs and double the home runs this year away from home in 12 less innings. Zobrist is batting 2nd and the 2nd base pool is really lame today.

Josh Donaldson

Donaldson is the no-brainer pick of the day as he gets to face Vidal Nuno who just hasn’t been good at all this year. He’s actually been worse against lefties this year but Donaldson crushes right handers so much that and sub-par pitcher looks like a great matchup. Donaldson is hot right now, has a 1.110 OPS against lefties this year, crushed them last year and is homering at a pretty sick rate. I will try to fit his salary on most of my rosters.

0.868 0.958 $4,100 $9,515 $11,500 $5,100 $95,100 $10,200 $11,600

Hanley Ramirez

Other than the 8 inning shutout against the Yankees, Danks really hasn’t been very good this year and he’s been fairly homer happy, yielding at least one in 5 of 6 and 3 in one game as well. Danks is bad away from US Cellular and is also giving up an .813 OPS to right handers. Hanley is expensive, but as shown earlier in the season can be that guy in your lineup that exceeds the rest of the people at his position since shortstop is fairly weak. Ramirez has always crushed left handers and I don’t see a problem on him beating up on Danks tonight.

0.933 0.992 $3,700 $9,415 $8,350 $4,500 $86,500 $6,500 $14,000

Michael Brantley

Brantley is having a great year, and while his homer power hasn’t been seen lately, he’s still keeping really nice numbers across the board and really solid power numbers. He’s usually in the middle of a Cleveland lineup who can get hot and put up big scores. They are facing Brandon Workman tonight who will pitch after appealing his suspension. Workman has been decent this year but has struggled away from home in his career. And could be in for a long night tonight against a bunch of solid lefty bats in the Indians especially Brantley.

Josh Hamilton

Hamilton was just heating up before he hit the DL and appears to be continuing that trend as he homered in his first game back. I would not be surprised at all to see him homer again tonight against Cosart. The Angels are favored and this game has a high over/under so the potential for a big night is there. Hamilton crushes right handers to around a .900 OPS every season and also loves hitting in Minute Maid Park. He’s affordable on certain sites like DS and FD and I expect to see him decently owned tonight.

0.985 1.016 $3,200 $7,115 $9,400 $4,200 $73,600 $7,200 $8,700

Adam Jones

Jones has been annihilating lefties this year but if you look at his previous years, he has actually hit right handers better than lefties in his career. Martinez finally came back to earth last time out and kind of struggled giving up 4 ER in 5.1 innings. Martinez isn’t a great pitcher, this over/under is extremely high and Jones is coming off one of the best games of his year where he was putting everything in play and finding the gaps. I’m expecting him to come through again tonight especially hitting next to Chris Davis.

Paul Goldschmidt

I’m not exactly sure why the D’Backs decided to rest Goldy against a lefty yesterday with a righty in Lyles coming up tonight, but I guess I am not in the clubhouse with them. Anyways, if he’s in the lineup tonight and it was just a real rest day I would still advise on using him. He used to only mash left handed pitching but he’s learned to hit from both sides and has an .853 OPS against right handers this year. He’s actually hit 9 of his 10 HRs against right handers although having many more plate appearances. The over/under tonight is massive in Coors and I would be surprised if he didn’t hit one out or at least close to it.

1.273 1.042 $3,800 $5,897 $9,850 $4,000 $64,300 $7,500 $6,400

Corey Dickerson

Can they rest Dickerson again? I don’t think so, and I think he will show up in the lineup tonight. Coors Field is so good for GPP and cash game plays that a guy like Dickerson on most of the sites right now can be really clutch with his cheap price. There aren’t a lot of times that you can find a guy with a low of a salary hitting in a 10.5 over/under game who hits right handers as well as Dickerson does (1.109 OPS). My only concern here is that Collmenter was great last time out but on the flip side he has continued to allow a ton of fly balls which isn’t going to cut it at Coors.
