Dave "CheeseIsGood" Potts Claims Another $1 Million Prize

Dave “CheeseIsGood” Potts claimed his second million dollar prize playing daily fantasy baseball early Saturday morning, as the DraftKings MLB Main Event came to an end with the 2014 FanDuel DFBC champion on top yet again, claiming another seven-digit payday.

Potts, a RotoGrinders contributor, has been one of the best fantasy baseball players in any format for quite some time, experiencing success in the season-long game before moving over to daily fantasy. He quickly rose to the top of the daily game with his win at the 2014 MLB live final for FanDuel, and has since rattled off more impressive results, culminating in a win in DraftKings’ $1,500 entry contest on Friday night.

Despite DK offering the opportunity for up to 100 entries, Potts needed only one lineup to take down the field, besting 1705 other lineups with a huge performance from his starting pitchers and stacking the Yankees, who scored 15 runs on the evening. Let’s take a look at his winning lineup.

lineup

Clayton Kershaw never goes unmentioned when Potts shares his thoughts on an MLB slate featuring the Dodgers’ ace, and he made sure to roll with the best pitcher in baseball in this high-stakes contest, and was rewarded with over 45 points after a 14-strikeout performance over eight innings. Raisel Iglesias provided seven innings with ten strikeouts for around half the price, and made for the perfect one-two punch for this victorious roster.

And from a hitting perspective, Potts went with the Yankees, who apart from catcher Brian McCann were low owned in their matchup against gas can Williams Perez. CheeseIsGood wrote about the Yanks in our Top Stacks incentives for Friday, saying “The Yankees are a more popular team to stack at home with their short right-field porch, but they have a great matchup against Williams Perez and his 5.07 SIERA. Perez has a very high walk rate to go with his below average strikeout rate, an excellent combination for stacking.” And it was his research for this column that ultimately led to his decision to roll with the Bronx Bombers in the big contest.

Dave wasn’t actually scheduled to write those incentives on Friday, and was called upon this afternoon to cover for someone else. He looked over his research and found the Yankees, and in writing them up for our premium users, decided they were the team to use in the DK Main Event. He told me he planned on using a couple of players from New York in his lineup anyways, but went all-in and stacked the whole team, including six-RBI Didi Gregorius, after writing his columns.

It is also worth noting that Daniel Nava made an appearance in Potts’ winning team, as Nava was also a key figure in Dave’s FanDuel live final victory in 2014 as a part of a Red Sox pairing with David Ortiz. On both occasions, Nava got three hits and provided a cheap source of points in a pivotal moment for Potts.

Potts becomes the second two-time millionaire in daily fantasy sports, joining RayOfHope, who won a DraftKings NFL Millionaire Maker and the 2015 FanDuel WFBC.
