DraftStreet $1,500 GPP MLB Lineup

Is anyone else as confused and frustrated as I am? On Sunday we had the highest scoring set of fantasy baseball games I have ever seen. On DraftStreet, there were scores in the 120’s. The scores were so high that Sunday’s scores alone filled up the entire top ten scores for the whole month. And I’m pretty sure that none of those scores are going to be topped. You could have put a blind fold on and randomly picked your team and you still would have scored at least 50 points. And the worst part about it is that I missed out on all the fun Sunday because I was too busy to put a team together.
So I figured I would get in on some of the high scoring action for Monday’s games. Then yesterday comes along and the highest score in any of my leagues was in the low 40s. It just goes to show you how difficult it is to predict baseball day in and day out.
But today is different! We are going to take down the $11 GPP tonight on Draftstreet. In order to do this, here is what we have to do:
1. Choose the right strategy – There are so many different routes you can take when you enter a GPP, you just have to hope that the route you take is the one leading you to the pot of gold. I usually like to take three cheap pitchers and then swing for the fences and try to get as many home runs as possible. You could also try the “one-team” approach where you take all the hitters from the same team and hope that the team is on fire that day.
2. Choose the right players – After you have decided which strategy you are going to roll with, you still aren’t close to being done. A strategy will narrow down the list of players you can take but the rest is up to you. Check your lefty/righty splits and your pitcher vs. batter stats.
3. Find that lucky old rabbit’s foot – To win a GPP, you have to be lucky. Plain and simple. Now that I’ve given you the blueprint for success, here is the team that I made for tonight:
DraftStreet $11 GPP Lineup
| Position | Player | Price | Opponent (Pitcher) | Why You Should Pick Em |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C | Victor Martinez | $7,248.00 | Indians (Masterson) | V Mart has had success against Masterson in the past and is one of a few catchers that can score big points any given night. |
| 1B | Ryan Howard | $6,358.00 | Marlins (Volstad) | Howard has had good numbers against Volstad and is due to go yard. 3-run jack tonight. |
| 2B | Neil Walker | $5,356.00 | Astros (Norris) | I didn’t love any of the expensive options at 2B so I’m hoping that Walker can come through for me. |
| 3B | Evan Longoria | $7,820.00 | Marlins (Volstad) | Longoria can have a monster day any day of the week, lets hope it’s tonight. |
| SS | Alex Gonzalez | $4,244.00 | Mets (Niese) | Since they have put him at the top of the lineup his play has improved tremendously. |
| OF | Hunter Pence | $6,701.00 | Pirates (Karstens) | Pence has been amazing in two statistics: Against righties and at home. He gets both tonight. |
| OF | Carlos Gonzalez | $7,444.00 | Padres (LeBlanc) | CarGo is back and in a big way. His price is going up and up and this is one of the last times you can get him for this cheap. |
| OF | Justin Upton | $6,923.00 | Giants (Cain) | This is my gut feeling pick for the night. Upton goes yard. |
| U | Raul Ibanez | $5,645.00 | Marlins (Volstad) | The Phillies bats have come to a lull, hopefully the Marlins’ Volstad is exactly what they need to break out of their funk. |
| U | Michael Bourn | $8,336.00 | Pirates (Karstens) | Couldn’t decide between Bourn and McCutchen here, both are good options. |
| SP | Trevor Cahill | $7,892.00 | Royals (Duffy) | Cahill has been far from spectacular his last few starts, but in a GPP you have to take the players with the most upside. He could easily get 10 points. |
| SP | Clayton Kershaw | $13,926.00 | Reds (Cueto) | I usually like to stay away from expensive pitchers in the GPP’s, but Kershaw is too underpriced to pass him up at home. |
| RP | Jose Valverde | $2,447.00 | Indians (Masterson) | This is going to be a low scoring game which means one of the two closers should get a save. I give the nod to the Tigers. |
| P | Doug Fister | $9,094.00 | Angels (Weaver) | Fister may not get the W going against Weaver but he has been amazing at home and should rack up the K’s against the M’s. |
Good luck everyone, see you tonight in the GPP!
