MLB Big Events: Monster Nights for TheDude404, JMToWin

Tuesday has become the new Wednesday in the Daily Fantasy Sports industry as we’ve shifted from NBA to MLB, and last night did not disappoint with several big GPP’s/Q’s throughout the big three sites. FanDuel ran the much anticipated $600K Monster, which paid out $100K to 1st place in addition to 5 KOTD tickets (including a trip to Vegas). DraftKings ran another one of their $100K Super Boosters, and DraftStreet held a $109 DSBC Q. The DraftStreet Heavy Hitters Bracket is still moving along, as we’re now down to the Final 4.
Before we get underway, the RotoGrinders staff would like to congratulate thedude404 and JMToWin on their big Tuesday nights! The Dude took down the Super Monster, which for him equaled a $100K payday as well as a King of the Diamond entry and a trip to Vegas during FanDuel’s week of main events later this summer. JMToWin edged out Notorious to take down last night’s $109 DSBC Q, so he’ll be headed to Vegas later this summer as well to compete for his chance at $1,000,000. Let’s get into the tournament breakdowns..
FanDuel $600K Super Monster

Another big congratulations to thedude404 (111th overall) on taking down last night’s Super Monster! He acquired a few entries via satellite and purchased one on his own (which I believe ended up being his winning entry), so he certainly wasn’t working with the same number of entries as some of the big bankroll players on FanDuel, but was able to take it down nonetheless. It should be interesting to see how much of a jump he takes in terms of volume in the near future, as $100K gives you quite a bit of leeway to work with. His winning entry didn’t consist of any stacking, but he hit on a lot of the individual stars of night in Brian Dozier, Evan Gattis and Alex Gordon. He entrusted Zack Wheeler on the road in Chicago as his mid-range SP, which worked out to the tune of 13.66 FP’s despite the bullpen blowing his chance at the win. Avirk51 finished in 3rd place (good for $25K and a KOTD ticket) thanks to 8 shutout innings for Jordan Zimmermann and a late inning HR from Nelson Cruz. Home runs from Adam Jones, Mark Teixeira and Adrian Beltre also helped to pave the way to his 3rd place finish. Rbranchini22 and dugfister (aka ElOsoBlanco) also finished in the top ten.
DraftStreet DSBC $109 Qualifier

JMToWin took down last night’s DSBC Q with a score of 86.34, outlasting 2nd place by just under 5 FP’s. Luckily for him, he avoided the bats in the Coors Field contest and instead went heavy on the Baltimore bats (Cruz, Jones, Machado, Hardy). He also caught HR’s from B.J. Upton (1% owned, 9.25 FP’s), Evan Gattis and Neil Walker, which was what he needed considering he rolled with the 2 SP approach (but was able to get 2 FP’s out of his reliever, Francisco Rodriguez). Our very own Notorious was the 2nd place finisher last night, as he got at least 10 FP’s out of all three of his SP’s and received big nights from Chris Owings, Adam Jones and Adrian Beltre. Notorious is ranked 7th on the overall leaderboard and 11th on the MLB Grinder leaderboard, so I’m guessing this won’t be the last time we see him near the top of the DSBC Q’s. CJK11 finished in 3rd place with an A’s stack, and he was part of the 4% of the field that rolled out Brandon Moss (2 HR’s, 13.25 FP’s) against a right-hander in Yankee Stadium. JMToWin also had an entries finish in 6th and 9th place, and miggytoddbest rounds out the RG members in 8th place.
DraftKings $50K Perfect Game

Since the Super Booster doesn’t really work for an article like this, we’ll highlight the $50K Perfect Game instead. Reztes757 (17th TPOY, 22nd on the MLB Grinder leaderboard) took down the $10,000 1st place prize with over 50 FP’s between his two SP’s (Chris Archer and Jordan Zimmermann) to go along with his 5-man Reds stack. He also got 20 FP’s from Adrian Beltre (3 hits, one of which went for a HR) and 17 from Tulo thanks to his 438 foot 9th inning solo shot. GrindersLive host and DraftKings incentives writer DraftCheat (5th TPOY, 6th MLB) finished with entries in 2nd and 7th place, good for a combined $6,250. He stacked up the Orioles with Gerrit Cole and Zach Wheeler on the hill in his 2nd place entry, which worked out after a 3-run HR from Nelson Cruz in the 8th inning. Miggytoddbest didn’t utilize the stacking strategy but finished 3rd with HR’s out of Gattis, Tulo, Jones, Hamilton and Walker. Stlcardinals84, werth4949, thisyaboydlove (aka DeeLove3), jetsmets150 and csuram88 also finished in the top ten.
