MLB Daily Grind Down: Friday, July 12th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.
A few Big name players have recently made it back onto the field and many more are scheduled back after the break. I am also coming off of the DL as well. I have not played the Daily Grind since July 3rd because I have been sick and overworked. I am ready to make a run at things tonight. Time is running out on these big events so it is time to go big or go home. Here is today’s Daily Grind Down to help you get ready for another great Friday night.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 7.5
- Favored Team – PIT -145
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Charlie Morton has been a serviceable pitcher since returning to the rotation. His Ks are a little on the low side but he is certainly playable. I would bw wary of him today despite the low OU because NYM has become a bit of a trap team after their horrible start. They rank 3rd in July in runs scored. NYM is .249 on the road, .234 versus right-handers, and .253 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 5
- Away Jeremy Hefner is following up his terrific June in which he posted a 1.80 ERA with and even better July with a 1.29 ERA. He is still struggling with the HR. He has just been lucky that they have been solo shots and not 3 run bombs. PIT has a great home record. They are batting .247 at home, .243 versus right-handers, and .248 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 5
Batter Grind Down
- Home Starling Marte, Jose Tabata and Pedro Alvarez have all been hot over the last 7 days. Jose Tabata and Alex Presley are batting over .300 versus right-handers. Do not forget about Andrew McCutchen ‘s .350 batting average at home. RG Stack Rating 2
- Away Marlon Byrd and Eric Young Jr. have both been hot for NYM. Davis, Murphy and Niewenhuis gain the righty/lefty splits in their favor. David Wright is batting over .300 versus right-handed pitching. RG Stack Rating 3

MIN vs R | MIN BvP | NYY vs L | NYY BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – NYY -177
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Concern about Hiroki Kuroda hip turned out to be without merit as he looked extra sharp in his last outing. He has a fantastic home record with a 1.89 home ERA and looks to be a lock to get the win versus Diamond. MIN is batting .227 on the road, .255 versus right-handers, and .218 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 7
- Away Scott Diamond gave up 3 HRs in his last start. He has given up 15 on the year. His 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP are pretty bad also and NYY is batting better in July after a horrible June. NYY is batting .245 at home, .235 versus left-handers, and .273 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 2
Batter Grind Down
- Home Lyle Overbay and Robinson Cano have both been hot for NYY. Ichiro Suzuki and Vernon Wells have good batting averages versus left-handers. Robinson Cano has 2 HRs in 5 AB versus Diamond. RG Stack Rating 6
- Away Justin Morneau is 3-3 versus Kuroda with 2 HRs. Both Mauer and Morneau have good batting batting averages versus right-handers. Aaron Hicks and Brian Dozier have been hot for MIN. RG Stack Rating 3

TOR vs R | TOR BvP | BAL vs L | BAL BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9.5
- Favored Team – BAL -130
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Chris Tillman has not been great at home but he has pitched well versus this TOR team in 2 starts giving up only 4 ER in 11.2 IP with 10 Ks. His K/9 totals are just good enough to make him playable and his 10-3 record has a lot to do with the offense he pitcher for so you know they will score him some runs. TOR is batting .238 on the road, .249 versus right-handers, and .235 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 5
- Away Mark Buerhle has been horrible on the road and BAL is not the place you want to bring a 5.81 road ERA into. He is trending upward with a 4.89 ERA in May followed by a 3.50 ERA in June but I do not trust him today versus this sick BAL offense. BAL is batting .263 at home, .248 versus right-handers, and .212 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 3
Batter Grind Down
- Home BAL owns a .302 BAA versus Buerhle. Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis and Chris Davis have the best number. RG Stack Rating 7
- Away Colby Rasmus has been the only hot player for TOR. Adam Lind is batting over .300 versus right-handers. Jose Bautista is 6-15 with 2 HRs versus Tillman. Edwin Encarnacion is 6-18 versus him as well. RG Stack Rating 4

CHW vs R | CHW BvP | PHI vs L | PHI BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8
- Favored Team – PHI -123
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Jonathan Pettibone has been productive but rarely last over 6 IP and has about 4 Ks a start so his upside is very limited. You can use hom on a multiple pitcher site if he is really cheap if you think he can get the win. CHW is batting .257 on the road, .254 versus right-handers, and .279 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 4
- Away John Danks has been awful on the road with a 6.43 ERA but his numbers seem to be moving down after every start. He is allowing left-handers to bat .297 versus him and I am not sure I trust him in that small park. PHI is batting .254 at home, .247 versus left-handers, and .292 over the past 7 days RG Start-Ability 4
Batter Grind Down
- Home . Ben Revere has been hot with 24.5 fp. Delmon Young is 16-43 with 2 HRs versus Danks. Carlos Ruis and Ben Revere are batting over .300 versus left-handers. RG Stack Rating 4
- Away Dayan Viciedo, Gordon Beckham and Josh Phegley have all been hot for CHW. Beckham is batting .391 versus right-handers on the year. RG Stack Rating 3
