MLB Daily Grind Down: Saturday, July 13th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.
Today is the final Q for Fanduel’s DFBC. There is something magical about winning the final spot. I watched Beermakersfan win the finally Q in the FFFC and go on to crush us all in Las Vegas in 2011. I do not know what your bankroll can afford but this is something you want to be apart of tonight. Good luck to everyone and my only hope is that a real Grinder takes this thing down. Here is today’s Daily Grind Down to help get your researched started.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – NYY -160
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Phil Hughes has been horrible on the year at home. He had success versus MIN early this year but that game was on the road so I am not sure I trust him today in this park that favors left-handed power since he is allowing left-handers to bat .302 against him. MIN is batting .245 on the road, .241 versus right-handers, and .208 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 4
- Away Samuel Deduno does not seem to show up against the tougher offenses when he is on the road. He just got shelled in TAM and CLE before that so it is hard to consider playing him today in NYY. Plus, his K totals are too low for me. NYY is batting .245 at home, .246 versus right-handers, and .256 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 3
Batter Grind Down
- Home Robinson Cano and Lyle Overbay have both been hot for NYY. Deduno is actually allowing right-handers to hit for a much better average against him than left-handers so I think even the righties are playable. RG Stack Rating 6
- Away Both Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau hit right-handers well. Ryan Doumit is 6-9 with 1 HR versus Hughes. I like all of the left-handed bats today. RG Stack Rating 5

CHW vs R | CHW BvP | PHI vs L | PHI BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8
- Favored Team – PHI -123
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Jonathan Pettibone has been productive but rarely last over 6 IP and has about 4 Ks a start so his upside is very limited. You can use hom on a multiple pitcher site if he is really cheap if you think he can get the win. CHW is batting .257 on the road, .254 versus right-handers, and .279 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 4
- Away John Danks has been awful on the road with a 6.43 ERA but his numbers seem to be moving down after every start. He is allowing left-handers to bat .297 versus him and I am not sure I trust him in that small park. PHI is batting .254 at home, .247 versus left-handers, and .292 over the past 7 days RG Start-Ability 4
Batter Grind Down
- Home . Ben Revere has been hot with 24.5 fp. Delmon Young is 16-43 with 2 HRs versus Danks. Carlos Ruis and Ben Revere are batting over .300 versus left-handers. RG Stack Rating 4
- Away Dayan Viciedo, Gordon Beckham and Josh Phegley have all been hot for CHW. Beckham is batting .391 versus right-handers on the year. RG Stack Rating 3

CIN vs L | CIN BvP | ATL vs R | ATL BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 7.5
- Favored Team – ATL -135
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Mike Minor stats take a small dip at home but they are still really good. He is in a great spot to produced today since he is holding left-handed batters to a .180 average and most of CIN best hitters are left-handed. Plus, CIN has a mere .156 BAA vs. him in 45 at bats. CIN is batting .243 on the road, .249 versus left-handers, and .260 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 8
- Away Homer Bailey had that letdown game that we predicted last time out. Really, it had less to do with it being the game after a No-No and more about his home/road splits. Bailey’s Home ERA is a very good 2.85 with a .193 BAA. His road ERA is a 4.61 with a .276 BAA, which is not good. If you add to that his 5.03 Day ERA then you have a very dicey play today. Still, he has big game upside and ATL has more Ks on the year than they have hits so he is in play in GPPs ATL is batting .256 at home, .254 versus right-handers, and .267 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 6
Batter Grind Down
- Home ATL will be without quite a few a players today. Schafer is on the DL. Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton and Justin Upton are all DTD. There will be a ton of value from them. Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann both make solid plays since they are batting over .300 versus right-handers. RG Stack Rating 3
- Away Not much to like statistically from CIN today except Zack Cozart who is 3-7 with 2 HRs versus Minor. Choo has been hot but he does not hit left-handers well and bats much worse on the road. RG Stack Rating 3

TOR vs R | TOR BvP | BAL vs R | BAL BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9.5
- Favored Team – BAL -150
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Jason Hammel road ERA is a very high 6.30. Not that his 4.25 road ERA is that great either. He has struggled all year and has had his troubles versus this TOR team already this year. OU is massive in this game and I do not think he is playable even if he does get the win. TOR is batting .241 on the road, .250 versus right-handers, and .263 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 2
- Away Todd Redmond is a long reliever making a spot start so he will probably throw around 80 pitches. Do not fall into the Bruce Chen trap and play Redmond. Occasionally, these types of players will have games like Chen did yesterday but they are far from the norm. Plus, BAL is a tougher offense then CLE. BAL is batting .264 at home, .274 versus right-handers, and .232 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 1
Batter Grind Down
- Home Chris Davis, Manny Machado, Adam Jones, and Nick Markakis are all batting over .300 versus right-handers. Adam Jones has been hot producing 25.5 fp over the last week. RG Stack Rating 8
- Away Edwin Encarnacion is 6-14 with 2 HRs versus Hammel. Melky Cabrera is 5-16 with 2 HRs. Jose Reyes is 4-11 vs him as well. Colby Rasmus and Rajai Davis have been hot for TOR. Adam Lind, Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera have good batting averages versus right-handers. RG Stack Rating 7

HOU vs R | HOU BvP | TBR vs L | TBR BvP
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9
- Favored Team – TAM -240
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home I know he is facing HOU but I have a hard time recommending Roberto Hernandez when he has given up 17 HRs on 17 games and has a very low career K/9 of 5.52. We have seen other scrubs put in monster games versus HOU so it is not impossible and they will certainly pad his K totals. HOU is batting .246 on the road, .229 versus right-handers, and .263 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 5
- Away Dallas Kuechel was on my radar for a brief moment but he is well out of my range now. Things do not look good for the left-hander today versus this tough TAM team that is great at home and kills left-handed pitching. So far in July he has posted a 6.52 ERA. I do not see that number getting smaller this afternoon. TAM is batting .265 at home, .287 versus left-handers, and .259 over the last 7 days. RG Start-Ability 2
Batter Grind Down
- Home Lock and load boys! It’s time to stack! RG Stack Rating 9
- Away It is hard to recommend anyone outside of Jason Castro for HOU but I see them scoring runs so time to play guess who. RG Stack Rating 2
