What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

TBRoberto Hernandez is a great example of an inconsistent pitcher, he can have a good game one night and then get blown up his next start. I’m a bit surprised that he is a favorite and that the line is this low, but either way, I don’t think Hernandez is a very good play. He has a 4.97 ERA on the road and hasn’t had a quality start in a while. Rating = 3

LAA – C.J. Wilson is an underdog against against Hernandez? Something seems a bit off with this one. If I were a betting man, I would certainly see some value in the Angels today. That said, the Rays are the best team in baseball against left hand pitching so that makes Wilson a bit too risky for my taste. Rating = 4

Batter Grind Down

TBEvan Longoria has had a great month of August and is a beast against left hand pitching. He is batting .324 with an OPS of .984. Love him today against Wilson. Young Wil Myers also hits lefties well.

LAA – One of the best splits of the day that you should target: Hernandez is allowing lefties to hit for a .305 average and an OPS of .909. Target Josh Hamilton, Kole Calhoun, and J.B. Shuck.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

ATLAlex Wood has really been impressive in his young career. In 7 starts he has a 2.50 ERA and a 1.066 WHIP with the best part being his K rate of just over 9 per 9 innings. The Indians have an offense that can string together hits, but I think Wood makes a solid play today. Rating = 7

CLEDanny Salazar has proven his ability to get big league outs and he has really been racking up the strike outs. In 23 innings pitched, Salazar has 29 K’s and a pretty solid ERA of 3.52. He is catching the Braves at the right time as they will be without Heyward and Uggla. I think he makes a good GPP play, but Wood is the safer pick in H2H’s and 50/50’s. Rating = 6

Batter Grind Down

ATL – I don’t expect a ton of offense in this one, but Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann both get the lefty/righty matchup against a very young pitcher.

CLE – I really like the way Wood has been pitching, nothing against the Indians, but there are much better options for hitters.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

NYM – Jonathan Niese has really pitched well in Citi Field this season. His road numbers are awful, but his numbers at home are pretty impressive. He has a 2.93 ERA and is facing a Phillies team whose best hitters are left handed. The Phillies are only batting .232 against lefties this season. Call me crazy, but Niese is a great play. Rating = 8

PHIKyle Kendrick has been downright ugly since the All-Star break. He has a 7.46 ERA while giving up a batting average of .364 to opponents. Even though he has a good matchup against the Mets, I do not like the way he is pitching. Rating = 3

Batter Grind Down

NYM – Kendrick is in a downward spiral, like I said he has given up a .346 batting average since the All-Star break and he is giving up an OPS of .807 to right hand bats. I think Eric Young, Daniel Murphy, and Ike Davis all have good value tonight.

PHI – Too many left handed bats on the Phillies. Utley, Brown, and Asche should all be avoided against the lefty Niese. Carlos Ruiz is in play though, he has always been good against lefties and has been swinging a hot bat.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

CWS – I always hear that the Astros are a pretty decent offensive team against left hand pitching, but when you look at the numbers, they just aren’t. On the season they have a .246 batting average against lefties with an OPS under .700. Jose Quintana looks like a great play tonight as he has a 3.66 ERA at home with a very nice K rate. He’s a huge favorite and should pick up the win. Rating = 8

HOU – Anytime you have this big of an underdog, I think it’s safe to avoid them. I don’t know much about Paul Clemens other than he won’t be in any of my lineups tonight. Rating = 1

Batter Grind Down

CWSPaul Clemens is a right hand pitcher with a high ERA that really struggles against left hand hitters. He is giving up an OPS of .970 to lefties so make sure to get a couple of them in your lineup. Alejandro De Aza and Adam Dunn look like great plays.

HOU – The Astros have been scoring some runs lately, but I think they come back down to earth tonight and Quintana pitches a good game.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

MINKevin Correia is not a pitcher that is made for fantasy baseball, his ERA is almost as high as his K rate. The Royals have been hot and Correia continues to trudge his way through the season. Rating = 3

KC – The Royals continue to win games and are a pretty big favorite against the Twins tonight. James Shields has been very consistent all season long, he has an ERA just over 3 and a K rate of 7 per 9 innings. Shields has struggled a bit with the Twins this season though, he has faced them 3 times and has an ERA of 5.89. I think he is in play, but temper your expectations. Rating = 6

Batter Grind Down

MIN – I mentioned that Shields has struggled with the Twins and a lot of that has to do with Justin Morneau. If you are a BvP guy, Morneau is 14/38 with 4 HR’s and 6 doubles off of Shields.

KC – Correia has really struggled against left hand hitters giving up a .320 batting average and an OPS of .859. The Royals lineup is stacked with left hand bats and Hosmer, Gordon, and Moustakas all make good plays.
