MLB Daily Plays: September 9, 2013
I’m still recovering from a very great weekend in Vegas at the RG party, so if the picks sound a little short today, at least I have an excuse. It’s actually a pretty good night for MLB with 11 games on the schedule. Here are my top plays:

Pitchers

- Gio Gonzalez – Gio has faced the Mets twice this season and has more K’s than innings pitched against them. He also held them to a .195 batting average in those games. Hard not to like him tonight against this weak Mets lineup in the very pitcher friendly Citi Field.
- Taijuan Walker – Walker is going to be a stud one day. While he only has two starts under his belt, he has looked good. He faced the Astros in his first start and held them scoreless and now gets to face the same team tonight. His pitch count will be limited, but with his price tag he is worth taking. He should get 5-6 innings and pick up the win.
Top Dollar Hitters

- Mike Trout – I really think today is the day to spend on the big bats and try to save elsewhere either with your pitchers or by taking some value plays. Trout has a great matchup against Pedro Hernandez who is carrying a 5.19 ERA while giving up a batting average over .300. Trout can do it all and can score fantasy points in many different ways. If you can, try to get him in your lineup.
- Adrian Beltre – Gerrit Cole has given up at least 2 earned runs in each of his last 7 starts. Tonight he has to face that tough Rangers lineup in Arlington, I think it’s safe to say that he will give up at least 2 once again. We all know how hot Beltre has been over the last two months, he continues to be a great play.
- Robinson Cano – Cano will be the highest owned 2B tonight, but for good reason. He is facing a righty in a hitter friendly Camden Yards. If that’s not enough, how about the fact that he is 11/22 off of Tillman with 2 HR’s. Cano is the easy choice at 2B.
Mid-Range / Value Hitters

- Adrian Gonzalez – A-Gon isn’t exactly a value hitter, but his price is always so affordable and he is so consistent that I figured I would lump him in with the value plays. A-Gon faces Randall Delgado tonight at home and has the splits in his favor.
- Alexi Casilla – I’m usually not too swayed when I see a below average hitter that has good BvP, but Casilla has the numbers and is facing a much different Sabathia than we are used to. Not only is he skinnier, but he his velocity just hasn’t been there. Casilla is 16/31 against him and should be in the Orioles lineup tonight. Not a bad place to save some money.
- J.B. Shuck – Really like the matchup for the Angels today. Facing a below average pitcher in Hernandez. Shuck is batting close to .300 on the season and should be batting leadoff tonight.
