Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks for Wednesday, May 29th
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks.
Happy Wednesday, Grinders! I am back with you for another article today, and we have the usual split-slate Wednesday on tap. There are 6 games on the early slate this afternoon and 7 games on the main slate this evening. However, DraftKings has removed Game 1 of the PIT/DET doubleheader from their early slate, so we only have 5 games on the early slate over there.
As with yesterday, we will need to monitor the weather once again today, though there are no games that are in imminent danger of being postponed. As such, I am going to write this article as though every game plays. Be sure to keep an eye on our MLB Weather page that Roth updates throughout the day, but as of now, it looks like the only major issues will be for the night slate.
Let’s dig in and see what this Wednesday slate has to offer for MLB DFS picks!
Wednesday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Tarik Skubal vs. Pirates [FD Only]
Jared Jones vs. Tigers [FD Only]
Yu Darvish vs. Marlins
James Paxton vs. Mets
Kyle Harrison vs. Phillies
Cristopher Sanchez vs. Giants
Dane Dunning vs. Diamondbacks
As usual, let’s begin with a look at how these pitchers have fared in 2024:
Skubal – 2.25 ERA, 2.55 xFIP, 31% K, 4% BB
Jones – 3.05 ERA, 2.91 xFIP, 29% K, 4% BB
Darvish – 3.04 ERA, 3.64 xFIP, 24% K, 7% BB
Paxton – 3.49 ERA, 5.45 xFIP, 14% K, 14% BB
Harrison – 3.90 ERA, 4.40 xFIP, 22% K, 8% BB
Sanchez – 3.15 ERA, 3.15 xFIP, 21% K, 8% BB
Dunning – 4.43 ERA, 3.68 xFIP, 28% K, 11% BB
The first thing you will notice is that we have a clear top two pitchers, Tarik Skubal and Jared Jones. They are going to pitch against each other in the first game of the doubleheader in Detroit. Both have elite data this season with well-above-average strikeouts and impeccable command. I’m going to give a slight edge to Skubal since he is pitching at home against the higher-strikeout lineup, but both are fantastic options in any format.
The problem is that DraftKings has removed this game from their early slate, so you can only use Skubal and Jones on FanDuel — where they are clearly the top two on the board. The options are much less exciting on DK without either of those two available.
