MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, August 22nd
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
SquirrelPatrol: Vladimir Guerrero
headChopper: Vladimir Guerrero
Dean78904: Vladimir Guerrero
ebeimfohr: Vladimir Guerrero
Who is your favorite hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
SquirrelPatrol: George Springer – Toronto bats will be popular tonight, but with only 10 teams to choose from and the Blue Jays carrying an implied run total a half-run higher than every other team on the slate, I won’t look to go under the field. Springer has 3 HRs in his last 2 games and has hit better at home this season with a .188 ISO at home compared to a .141 ISO on the road.
headChopper: Marcell Ozuna – When comparing the chances of each hitter to hit a home run tonight, Ozuna is going to rank in the top 5 of anyone’s metrics. Yet, we are going to get a big discount in ownership compared to guys with similar odds. After a .350+ ISO vs. left-handed pitching last season, Ozuna is sitting at .215 this year and has always had a liking for southpaws. Cristopher Sanchez has been a solid pitcher this season but still struggles to strike out right-handed hitters, and Ozuna has a lot of power if you’re trying to pitch to contact with him.

Dean78904: Vladimir Guerrero – Since no one else has, I’ll take the low-hanging fruit. It was a rough start to the season, but Vladdy is breaking the scoville scale with how hot he is right now. In the last 30 days, Guerrero boasts an absolutely ridiculous .397 ISO / .525 wOBA vs RHPs. That is the final wing post last dab level hot. By comparison, Aaron Judge, the league leader in both categories, has a season-long .388 ISO / .486 wOBA. I should also mention Griffin Canning, who is the outlier on a slate filled with quality arms. Canning has the lowest K rate (16.6%), highest ERA (5.41), SIERA (4.91), and HR/9 (1.62). Baseball variance happens all the time, but Guerrero is well-positioned to keep smashing versus what is very clearly the most vulnerable starter on the slate.
ebeimfohr: Yordan Alvarez – It’s a small slate with many of the super-elite spend-up bats not in action, and we are able to get one of the very best bats, especially against RHP, in the league at low projected ownership. Corbin Burnes is certainly not the ideal opponent, but he was just completely blown up by the Red Sox, and Yordan has a truly insane .428 xwOBA and .325 xISO against RHP this season while striking out just 13% of the time.
