Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Shohei Ohtani
ebeimfohr: Shohei Ohtani
Dean78904: Bryce Harper
What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: I really like this slate for all types of tournaments. But I think we are going to get such condensed ownership in single-entry and smaller-field contests that I prefer playing those, where my lower-owned favorites will be even more sneaky. It is mostly on the offensive side where I’m getting different, as I won’t overthink it with Dylan Cease and Emmet Sheehan on the pitching side – adding MacKenzie Gore and Framber Valdez in next. As much as I love the Phillies, I prefer the Dodgers ahead of them if I can only get one of the two clear top offenses. However, I’m also willing to fade full stacks of both of those teams, just using some individual bats from those spots and adding in other favorite offenses like the Orioles, Blue Jays, Rays, and Rangers.
ebeimfohr: I am generally more of a single-entry player, or at least focus on smaller fields, and this slate is an extremely powerful one for those contests. The pOWN% on the slate is so condensed, especially in those fields, despite the fact that it is a large slate with plenty of options. My preference when pOWN% condenses around both a pitcher and a small subset of bats is to lean more on the top-projected pitching. Hitting is just higher variance on a day-to-day basis, and lesser-projected stack options or the lower-owned bats within popular stacks can outproduce the chalk more easily than top arms in elite spots like Emmet Sheehan and Dylan Cease today.
Dean78904: I mostly focus on single-entry and smaller-field contests. I expect to have a pretty small pitcher pool. Ideally, I’ll roster two of Dylan Cease, Framber Valdez, and MacKenzie Gore in my lineups. If I cannot make that happen, I’ll save a little salary with one of Eury Perez, Emmet Sheehan, Kyle Bradish, or Will Warren. The Phillies and Dodgers will likely be the two most popular stacks, and I am on both of them. I like Shohei Ohtani plenty, but spending up on SPs will make it tough to roster him. If I end up on both teams in the same lineup, I’ll target 4-2-2- or 3-3-2-type stacks to give me a different lineup construction.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
