Alex Sonty: Aaron Judge
Who is your favorite sneaky stack on the board and why?
squirrelpatrol: Athletics – I probably won’t play Oakland much this season, but they will have their spots, and visiting Texas on a smaller slate (which could lose 1-2 games due to weather) is one of them. The team hit 3 HRs last night (okay, all of them came from Shea Langeliers), they are in a good park for power, and they will likely come in at a cheap price throughout this season.
stevietpfl: Rangers – It’s early in the day, but our Top Stacks tool currently has the Rangers team stack pOWN% around 5%. I hope they’re going to go overlooked. Ross Stripling had a 18.3% strikeout rate last season and allowed a .210 ISO and a .355 wOBA. Through 2 starts this season, his strikeout rate and swinging strike rate are still low, but he’s done a better job limiting power. I don’t expect that to continue, and I think this is a massive ceiling spot for the Rangers.
TheLuuch: Rangers – Our Top Stacks tool doesn’t love Texas, but the pOWN% is also very low. I’m always intrigued by a team with a projected total of more than 5 runs against an over-the-hill Ross Stripling. He coughed up 20 home runs in just 89 innings of work in 2023, and he really struggled vs. lefties, giving way to a .221 ISO and a very high 12.8% barrel rate. Corey Seager, Evan Carter, Jared Walsh, and Jonah Heim are very interesting lefties, and you can obviously incorporate Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia into any stack. If a few games are postponed, however, I’m not sure this will end up being as sneaky as I’d hope.
Alex Sonty: Rangers – If the Rangers are gonna be 5-6% owned, inject them into my veins against the horrid power prevention of Ross Stripling — which dates back to 2020 (1.61 HR/9) — and the A’s bullpen. There’s power in everybody 1 through 9 to just invite everyone to the BBQ! If Texas pOWN% catches more steam than the Brewers, then the Brewers become my favorite stack. They have 4 hitters with barrel rates over 11% against RHP since the start of the 2023 season and will be facing the potentially chalky Hunter Greene and his 34.5% fly-ball rate in this historically great ballpark for hitting home runs.
