CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Thursday! We’ve got a slow day for MLB, leaving plenty of time for an afternoon nap. I’m going to look into the 3-game evening slate that starts at 7:40 PM ET, but as we walk through the top plays, keep in mind that the smaller the slate, the more everything becomes viable.
If you’re playing the early 3-gamer that starts at 1:10 PM ET, we’ll have some expert tags in our MLB DFS optimizer, LineupHQ, to get you headed in the right direction.
Thursday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We don’t really need tiers for a 3-game slate, but if you really want them, it’s Sonny Gray and then the other FIVE GUYS (!!) in the next tier.
Sonny Gray at Brewers – 33.3% K, 4.4% BB, 0.89 ERA, 2.36 SIERA
Reid Detmers vs. Royals – 26.7% K, 8.5% BB, 4.24 ERA, 3.53 SIERA
Erick Fedde vs. Guardians – 25% K, 8.5% BB, 3.46 ERA, 3.71 SIERA
Ben Lively at White Sox – 28.6% K, 7.1% BB, 2.08 ERA, 3.27 SIERA
Michael Wacha at Angels – 18.9% K, 6.1% BB, 5.50 ERA, 4.16 SIERA
Tobias Myers vs. Cardinals – 20% K, 9.1% BB, 6.23 ERA, 4.54 SIERA
Sonny Gray is way out ahead of the field in terms of 2024 skill set, but let’s keep in mind that it’s still a small sample size for him (as well as most of the pitchers on this slate). As I discussed yesterday, it’s unlikely he keeps up this pace, but it’s not completely out of the question that he can be a 30% strikeout pitcher. Rather than talk about why Gray is the best pitcher on this slate, let’s look at the other options that all come at significant savings. From there, we can come back and decide if it needs to be a priority to spend $10,800 on DK and $11,600 on FD for Gray.
