Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks for Tuesday, August 13th
CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Tuesday! We’ve got ourselves a strange little 9-game slate with a glaring lack of strong pitching options. This gives us a huge tangle of offense that is difficult to sort through. I’ll do my best to find some favorites on both sides of the ledger, but at first glance, this appears to be a spread-it-out kind of slate.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
What a difference a day makes. After a gloriously loaded Monday night pitching slate, we are stuck with only one pitcher on this entire 9-game slate with a strikeout rate above 23%. I’ll start with the pitchers from $8,000 and above in the top tier:
“TOP TIER” PITCHING
Michael King vs. Pirates – 28.1% K, 8.8% BB, 3.34 ERA, 3.61 SIERA
Kevin Gausman at Angels – 21.5% K, 6.9% BB, 4.42 ERA, 4.20 SIERA
Nestor Cortes at White Sox – 22.2% K, 5.2% BB, 4.42 ERA, 4.08 SIERA
Charlie Morton at Giants – 23% K, 8.8% BB, 4.47 ERA, 4.09 SIERA
Seth Lugo at Twins – 21% K, 5.9% BB, 2.72 ERA, 4.05 SIERA
Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Rockies – 2nd start of season
Kutter Crawford vs. Rangers – 23.1% K, 6.6% BB, 4.07 ERA, 4.08 SIERA
Michael King ends up looking like the SP1 on this weak pitching slate pretty much by default. He is the only pitcher on the slate above a 23% strikeout rate, giving him a huge edge over the field in realistic upside. He is regularly in the range of 7-9 strikeouts and has a decent matchup against a Pirates team with 6 of the 9 projected starters above 23% strikeouts against RHP this season. He’s also much more dominant against righties (31.4% K rate) and likely faces 6 of them tonight. He’s pretty easy to fit at $9,800 on FD and $9,500 on DK, and he’ll be the first guy in most of my lineups, even assuming that he’s the chalk.
On DK, Seth Lugo and Kevin Gausman are the other pitchers at $9,000, while on FD, we find a much more bunched-up group of salaries with Lugo and Gausman joined by Charlie Morton and Nestor Cortes all between $8,600-$9,200.
Of that group…
