Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks for Tuesday, May 14th

CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Tuesday! We have an 11-game slate (Game 2 of the WSH/CWS doubleheader is not being included), which looks remarkably similar to last night’s 12-gamer. There is a strong top tier of pitchers, and then the offense is spread out all over the place without a lot of clarity. Let’s dive right in and see if we can find some separation somewhere in all this jumble.
Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

We have a clear top group, led by Dylan Cease at home against the Rockies. I’ll group the top six pitchers in this top tier, although it could be split into a top three:
TOP-TIER PITCHING
Dylan Cease vs. Rockies – 32.4% K, 8.6% BB, 2.19 ERA, 3.03 SIERA
Sonny Gray at Angels – 31.9% K, 4.3% BB, 2.29 ERA, 2.54 SIERA
Chris Sale vs. Cubs – 30.6% K, 4.7% BB, 2.95 ERA, 2.58 SIERA
Hunter Greene at Diamondbacks – 27.7% K, 11% BB, 3.38 ERA, 3.80 SIERA
Logan Gilbert vs. Royals – 27.1% K, 7.5% BB, 2.94 ERA, 3.40 SIERA
Ronel Blanco vs. A’s – 23.3% K, 11.4% BB, 2.23 ERA, 4.28 SIERA
Salary is certainly a thing that needs to be discussed and considered here, as none of the pitchers in this top tier are cheap. All six of these pitchers are over $8,500 on both sites, and there are enough of them that I think we can be a little picky.
While matchups do matter, Ronel Blanco just doesn’t belong in this group. He’s far and away the lowest-strikeout pitcher and has an even higher walk rate than Hunter Greene. He’s out of the primary pool.
Speaking of Hunter Greene, this is the one guy where salary may play a bit more of a role. For pure upside, he’s kind of close to the top three, but between his very sketchy control, inconsistency, and tough matchup, I still just can’t consider him anywhere close to a priority play.
Logan Gilbert got absolutely shellacked in his last start, but I don’t see anything other than worst-case-scenario BABIP and HR/FB on a day when he actually had his highest swinging-strike rate of the season. I’m giving him a full pass on that outlier start, and his skills put him well ahead of Greene as the top pitcher below $10,000 on DK.
But now we come to the really elite options that will cost you.
