Happy Wednesday! If by chance you didn’t have enough fun with a chalky Twins pitcher against the White Sox, then you get the chance to run it back tonight. Hopefully, we won’t see a sudden, disturbing drop in velocity this time! By the way, while it is of no use to DFS lineups, how nonsense are the White Sox that they couldn’t even manage to win that game? Seriously, they are so bad it makes me sad for fans of that team. On the flip side, what a gift for Rockies fans to be able to say they are twice as good as the worst team. Kinda makes them sound average if you say it like that!

We have a similar setup tonight, where in addition to the chalk Twins pitcher, we have the Padres in Coors Field, but they are just one of a clump of top-tier offenses and not necessarily heavy chalk. Let’s dive on in and see what we find.

Wednesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

We have another shot at a chalky Twins pitcher against the White Sox, and he is joined by another five guys (!!) in the top tier.

Joe Ryan vs. White Sox – 29.7% K, 4.8% BB, 4.39 ERA, 3.30 SIERA
Bryce Miller at Rangers – 22.7% K, 5.3% BB, 3.93 ERA, 4.06 SIERA
Reynaldo Lopez vs. Marlins – 29.2% K, 11.6% BB, 2.68 ERA, 3.71 SIERA
Clarke Schmidt vs. A’s – 22.1% K, 6.9% BB, 4.47 ERA, 4.20 SIERA
Garrett Crochet at Twins – 27.4% K, 11.3% BB, 4.93 ERA, 3.86 SIERA
Jon Gray vs. Mariners – 22.5% K, 8.6% BB, 4.10 ERA, 4.38 SIERA

The first thing I want to do today is make it clear that a Tuesday start from Pablo Lopez has no bearing one way or another on a Wednesday start from Joe Ryan. Somewhere, someone is going to say you can’t play Joe Ryan chalk because Pablo Lopez chalk didn’t work out. That’s obviously silly nonsense. You can fade Joe Ryan chalk because it’s baseball and you can fade any chalk you want, but don’t fade him because Lopez may have an injury; that’s just not relevant. What is relevant is that Joe Ryan is an ace who is over 30% strikeouts to both sides of the plate with elite control, and he’s facing the worst team in the league. Even if he were to allow a home run or two, there are multiple paths to upside here with innings and strikeouts. The overall pitching slate is weak and filled with question marks, and personally, I will be very close to a lock-button on Ryan on both sites.

The next question comes in with two pitchers who have very little track record as starters but intriguing early returns. That would be Reynaldo Lopez and Garrett Crochet.
