CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.

Happy Wednesday! We’ve got a classic case of the split-slate Wednesdays, with a 7-game early slate at 12:10 PM ET and a 6-game main slate at the usual 7:05 PM ET (on DraftKings). FanDuel is going with a 7-game main slate starting at 6:40 PM ET.

I am running up against a wicked cough that is keeping me up late, so I’m writing up this early slate on Wednesday night with the information currently available. If there are changes, I will update as needed in the morning, but I’m hoping that, if the NyQuil does it’s thing, I can get a few extra zzz’s. Assuming I am currently alive as of 11:30ish AM ET, you can catch my final thoughts for the slate on an early Crunch Time. Then I’ll be back post-DayQuil with analysis on the evening slate.

Without further ado, here are my very early thoughts on MLB DFS picks for this early slate.

Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

It’s a pretty strong group of pitchers for a small slate, especially up top with a couple aces in plus matchups. We then get down to some weird conundrums with the cheaper options, but I begin with these four buckets:

Trio Of Aces

Kevin Gausman at Marlins – 32.2% K, 6.4% BB, 3.01 ERA, 3.04 SIERA
Zac Gallen at Brewers – 27% K, 5.1% BB, 2.96 ERA, 3.45 SIERA
Cristian Javier vs. Mets – 23.8% K, 5.9% BB, 2.90 ERA, 4.25 SIERA

Strong Upper-Mid Tier Matchup

Taj Bradley vs. Orioles – 34.1% K, 8.1% BB, 4.19 ERA, 3.08 SIERA
Tyler Wells at Rays – 26.1% K, 5.1% BB, 3.20 ERA, 3.72 SIERA

The Good, The Bad And The What?

Sandy Alcantara vs. Blue Jays – 19.4% K, 7.3% BB, 4.97 ERA, 4.42 SIERA
Andrew Abbott vs. Rockies – 16.9% K, 12.7% BB, 0.00 ERA, 5.78 SIERA [3 starts]
Julio Teheran vs. Diamondbacks – 18.2% K, 3.6% BB, 1.78 ERA, 4.38 SIERA [5 starts]
Rich Hill vs. Cubs – 21.4% K, 8.6% BB, 4.31 SIERA, 4.57 SIERA

Cheap And Maybe?

Matt Boyd vs. Royals – 23.1% K, 9% BB, 5.60 ERA, 4.39 SIERA
Brady Singer at Tigers – 20.4% K, 8.8% BB, 6.33 ERA, 4.56 SIERA

Gausman, Gallen, and The Other Guy

Kevin Gausman at Marlins – 32.2% K, 6.4% BB, 3.01 ERA, 3.04 SIERA
Zac Gallen at Brewers – 27% K, 5.1% BB, 2.96 ERA, 3.45 SIERA
Cristian Javier vs. Mets – 23.8% K, 5.9% BB, 2.90 ERA, 4.25 SIERA

Cristian Javier is a good pitcher, but the strikeouts have just fallen way too far behind Gausman and Gallen for me to consider him on this slate outside of deep MME builds. Gausman and Gallen have better matchups with more upside to this point in the season and just slightly higher price tags.

Kevin Gausman has been down for DFS purposes his last two starts, but I’ve seen enough from him this season to call him the clear SP1 if salary is no issue. However, Zac Gallen bounced back last start with 7 strong innings and gets the better strikeout matchup at a savings of $600 on FD and $900 on DK. For me, these two aces are close enough that I’m happy to side with Gallen if I can use that salary elsewhere.
