MLB DFS Top Stacks: Friday, August 4

Derek Farnsworth walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.
In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
This is always a fun time of year. The start of the NFL season is only a few short weeks away, baseball is gearing up the playoffs, and before we know it, basketball will be back in our lives. For the golf fans out there, the playoffs start next week. It’s a great time to be a sports fan. It’s also a good time for stacking in baseball because we clearly know the motivation of each team at this point of the season. Let’s dive into the top stacks and pivots for Friday night’s slate.
Chalk Stack #1 – Red Sox vs. Alek Manoah

We have to use the term chalk lightly here, as there isn’t a runaway stack in terms of ownership tonight. The Red Sox narrowly edge out the Orioles (vs. David Peterson), Phillies (vs. Jordan Lyles), and Astros (vs. Luis Severino) for the highest projected ownership. This is one of those slates where if you have conviction in a team, don’t let ownership sway your decision making. The difference between 7% and 8% ownership isn’t going to make much of a difference, even in large-field tournaments.
