MLB DFS Tournament Strategy: Wednesday, April 17th

MLB DFS tournament play is unlike that of any other sport. Predicting outcomes with precision is difficult, and player variance is near its peak. There are special considerations when constructing lineups in order for you to find success in the long term. Each weekday, our DFS analysts will examine a specific tournament format and help you understand the application of strategy, via concepts such as pitcher pairings, roster construction, stacking, leverage, ownership, variance, and more.

MAIN SLATE

My article yesterday got a little wordy, so I am going to try to break this one down more simplistically with some bullet points to highlight specifically what I am trying to get at.

PITCHING TEXTURE

Optimal Construction: First Look

- Expected Chalk: From a pitching standpoint, the optimal constructions look very straightforward for each site in my opinion. FD and FDRFT are including the three earlier evening games (starting with BOS @ NYY at 6:35 PM EST), which brings Carlos Carrasco into the discussion on those two sites. Carrasco will represent the chalk on FD and FDRFT despite his disaster last start. On FDRFT, I think Jake Odorizzi is the optimal SP2 play.

That Cleveland game is excluded from the DK and Yahoo Main Slates, which leaves Cole Hamels alone at the top against the Marlins. Just as with FDRFT, I think Odorizzi is the optimal SP2 play here as well.

- Expected Salary Allocation for Preferred Builds: Assuming weather isn’t an issue, salary allocation is once again going to come down to Mike Trout playing in Arlington against a subpar pitcher. The pricing on the two-pitcher sites make him an easy get, but you will need to make a few sacrifices if you are playing him on FD with Carrasco. If I have to sacrifice Trout on FD to get more lefties against Matt Harvey, then so be it.
