Pitcher Grind Down
- Henderson Alvarez – Alvarez has gotten better in each of the last 3 seasons. He’s not the best strikeout pitcher in baseball, but owns one of the lowest ERA’s at 2.27. Alvarez threw 6 scoreless innings against the Mets the last time he faced them and makes a nice contrarian play tonight. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7600 FD, $15402 DS, $14000 DD, $7500 DK, $99000 FF, $21500 SS, $14000 FTD
- Zack Wheeler – Wheeler is my favorite GPP pitcher tonight. He’s been extremely inconsistent this season, but has tremendous upside when he is on. The last time he faced the Marlins he threw a complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts. The Marlins like to strike out on the road and Wheeler will be more than happy to help with that tonight. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7200 FD, $15900 DS, $13300 DD, $7600 DK, $74700 FF, $19400 SS, $13300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Miami
You can never rule out Giancarlo Stanton as a GPP play, but I’ll be avoiding all Marlins’ bats for cash games.
NY Mets
I expect this to be a very low scoring game with both starting pitchers as viable fantasy options. I’ll be avoiding both offenses.
LA Angels at Texas

Pitcher Grind Down
- Garrett Richards – Richards fell just short on his All-Star campaign, but could still get in if a pitcher pulls out due to injury. Richards owns an impressive 2.71 ERA while averaging 9.2 K’s per 9 innings. Even though this game will be played in the hitter-friendly Globe Life Park, I think he’s in play as the Rangers are ranked 20th in wOBA vs. RH pitching this season. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8500 FD, $21059 DS, $18450 DD, $10300 DK, $143000 FF, $30300 SS, $18450 FTD
- Nick Tepesch – The Vegas line tells you everything that you need to know about Tepesch tonight. He’s a sizable underdog in a game that features one of the highest run totals on the board. The Angels are ranked 7th in wOBA against RH pitching this season and are coming off of a 15 run effort last night. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5300 FD, $8897 DS, $11300 DD, $5700 DK, $64500 FF, $13900 SS, $11300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
LA Angels
Josh Hamilton – Batters from both sides of the plate are in play tonight. Once again, the Angels are one of the top stack options. Hamilton played well in last night’s game and has more motivation than anyone to play well as he is facing his former team.
Additional Plays: Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Erick Aybar
Texas
Richards has dominated the Rangers in the past and I expect that trend to continue tonight. I don’t mind Adrian Beltre, but I don’t think I’ll be paying up for him with all of the other options at 3B.

Pitcher Grind Down
- John Lackey – Lackey is a nice boom or bust play tonight. The Astros strike out often against RH pitching, but have to be riding high after putting up 28 runs in their series against the Rangers. Lackey’s price may be a little high, but he makes a nice contrarian play in tournaments. Rating = 5
Salaries: $8000 FD, $15139 DS, $14400 DD, $8400 DK, $93100 FF, $24000 SS, $14400 FTD
- Scott Feldman – Feldman has found some consistency of late. In each of his last 5 starts, he has gone at least 5 innings, struck out at least 4 batters, and hasn’t given up more than 3 earned runs. That’s not terrible for his price, especially on a site that DS. Tonight he faces a Red Sox offense that continues to flounder. I actually don’t mind him as a #3 SP tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5600 FD, $8677 DS, $10000 DD, $5800 DK, $74400 FF, $15900 SS, $10000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Boston
Mike Napoli – Napoli has a nice track record against Feldman. He’s faced him 29 times in his career and has 12 hits, 3 of which went for extra bases. Napoli typically strikes out a lot, but faces a pitcher with a very low K-rate so he should be able to put the ball in play.
Additional Plays: David Ortiz
Houston
George Springer – Feldman is a reverse splits pitcher. He’s given up a .330 wOBA to RH hitters since the start of 2013 and Springer continues to enjoy a terrific rookie season. He has a .363 wOBA vs. RH pitching with 15 HR’s.
Additional Plays: Jose Altuve
St. Louis at Milwaukee

Pitcher Grind Down
- Joe Kelly – Kelly will be activated off of the DL and will take the mound tonight against the Brewers. He’s a pitcher whose ERA always seems much better than his peripheral stats indicate. With this being his first start, he’ll likely be on some sort of a pitch count. Throw in his matchup against the Brewers in Miller Park and I’ll take a pass on Kelly tonight. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5600 FD, $11607 DS, $10150 DD, $6900 DK, $88300 FF, $15300 SS, $NA FTD
- Yovani Gallardo – Gallardo is neither a top pitching option or one that you need to avoid. He has a pretty average matchup against the Cardinals (ranked 21st in wOBA vs. RH pitching) and he’s a pretty mediocre fantasy play. For the price, there are better options tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6900 FD, $15169 DS, $13900 DD, $8000 DK, $83000 FF, $20800 SS, $13900 FTD
Batter Grind Down
St. Louis
Matt Holliday – Gallardo is a RH pitcher, but he has pretty equal splits against LH and RH hitters. Holliday has 4 career HR’s off of Gallardo and is playing in the HR-friendly Miller Park.
Additional Plays: Matt Adams, Matt Carpenter
Milwaukee
Carlos Gomez _ Gomez’s price has come down across the industry and this is a great time to buy low on him. He has good power, good speed, and a good matchup against Kelly at home.
Additional Plays: Scooter Gennett, Jonathan Lucroy
Detroit at Kansas City

Pitcher Grind Down
- Anibal Sanchez – Sanchez pitched well in his last start against the Royals, but he didn’t strike out a single batter. While I don’t expect that to happen again, I point it out because the Royals are a team that strikes out fewer than any team in baseball. That hurts Sanchez’s fantasy value tonight, but his price on FD puts him in play for cash games. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7300 FD, $17236 DS, $14600 DD, $8300 DK, $84800 FF, $22900 SS, $14600 FTD
- Danny Duffy – Duffy is starting to look like the pitcher that the Royals have hoped for over the last few years. In 12 starts, he’s posted a 2.86 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.0. He only gave up 2 earned runs in 7 innings against the Tigers in their last meeting and I like the upside that he provides at his low price tag. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $6500 FD, $12921 DS, $10750 DD, $6800 DK, $83000 FF, $17000 SS, $10750 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Miguel Cabrera – Miggy is one of the top options at 1B tonight, but you are going to have to pay up for him. Duffy has held LH hitters to a .217 wOBA since the start of 2013, so if you are targeting any batters here, target the ones that hit from the right side of the plate.
Additional Plays: J.D. Martinez
Kansas City
Since the start of 2013, Sanchez has held LH and RH hitters under a .280 wOBA. I’ll be avoiding all Royals tonight.
