Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyler Chatwood – Chatwood is making his first start of the season. Last year he posted a 3.15 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP and a K/9 of 5.4. While he may prove to be a nice value play throughout the course of the season, he has a tough matchup against the Giants and he is a big underdog (+158). Rating = 3
- Tim Hudson – Hudson has two quality starts under his belt this season, but both came against the Diamondbacks. He faces a Rockies lineup that is much less potent away from Coors Field. Hudson does not have a ton of experience against this lineup, but should pitch another quality outing in the pitcher friendly AT&T Park. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
- Hudson held LH and RH batters under a .300 wOBA last season and the Rockies’ prices are largely inflated due to half of their games being played at Coors Field. I will not be overpaying for any Rockies’ batters today.
- Additional Plays: None
San Francisco
- Brandon Belt – Belt already has 5 HR’s this season, 4 of which came off of RH pitching. Chatwood gave up a .332 wOBA to LH batters last season and Belt is a highly recommended play today.
- Additional Plays: Buster Posey, Angel Pagan

Pitcher Grind Down
- Scott Kazmir – Kazmir has great velocity, but he also has the ability to get hit hard. He struggled against the Twins in his last outing, but today’s matchup bodes well for him. Kazmir held LH batters to a .254 wOBA last season and the Mariners have as many LH batters in their lineup as anyone. Kazmir is one of my favorite contrarian plays today. He has a high K-rate and could get some run support with Young on the mound opposite him. Rating = 7
- Chris Young – Young pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen against the A’s and now gets to face them as a starter. Young is an extremely tall pitcher that can create some unique angles for batters, but this will be his first start since 2012 and the A’s really hit RH pitching well. I’m going to avoid him in all leagues. Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
- Brandon Moss – Over his last two seasons, Young gave up a .756 OPS to LH batters. Moss is batting .324 against RH pitching this season and is riding a 7 game hitting streak. That streak should stay intact today.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Max Scherzer – This Tigers’ pitching staff is arguably the best in baseball and it just doesn’t seem fair having them pitch in Petco Park under NL rules. Scherzer has more upside than any other starter today, but I still think Wacha is a better cash game play as he is a larger favorite and is a little cheaper than Scherzer. Scherzer posted a K/9 of 10.1 last season and will get to face the opposing pitcher at least a couple of times. He could very easily reach double-digit K’s today. Rating = 10
- Tyson Ross – Ross was a terrific pitcher at home in Petco last season. He posted a 2.07 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP and a 7.8 K/9. Even though he is the underdog here, he makes for a great tournament play because he will not be highly owned and he does have the upside that you are looking for in a GPP. The total is only set at 7.0 runs and he could pick up a surprising win if he could get a run or two to back him. Rating = 6

Pitcher Grind Down
- Dan Haren – Haren is a fly ball pitcher that often finds trouble in hitter’s ballparks. Chase Field was right around the league average in both runs and HR’s given up last season, but is generally considered a hitter’s ballpark. The D-Backs have some power bats in their lineup and with Haren having given up 28 HR’s last season, I do not love this matchup for him. Rating = 4
- Trevor Cahill – Cahill is getting paid like an ace as he is set to receive $20 million over the next two seasons, but he’s not holding up his end of the deal. Cahill is 0-3 with a 7.90 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP this season. He should be avoided at all costs today against the Dodgers. Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
Los Angeles
- Adrian Gonzalez – Gonzalez loves Chase Field. He hit for a 1.23 OPS at Chase Field last season which was his highest in any ballpark. He has continued that success this season as he is 5/8 with 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s in only 2 games in Chase Field. Get A-Gon in all of your lineups tonight against Cahill.
- Yasiel Puig – Puig has really played well in this series and has a nice matchup against Cahill who gave up a .319 wOBA to RH batters last season. Puig is arguably the most dynamic player in the game and is always entertaining to watch (maybe he will jump in their hot tub again).
- Additional Plays: Hanley Ramirez
Arizona
- Paul Goldschmidt – Haren gives up HR’s and Goldy hits HR’s. As simple as that may sound that is exactly why I like Goldy tonight. Haren gave up a .337 wOBA and a .754 OPS to RH batters last season and it should be bombs away for Goldy and the D-Backs.
- Additional Plays: Aaron Hill, Mark Trumbo

Pitcher Grind Down
- Felix Doubront – Sunday night baseball with the Red Sox and Yankees. It doesn’t get much better than that. Doubront has really struggled in his road starts over the last two season. In 13 road starts last season, he posted a 4.94 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP. The Yankees should be able to knock him around a bit tonight. Rating = 3
- Ivan Nova – Nova really struggled in his last start. He gave up 10 hits and 7 earned runs in only 3 and 2/3’s innings of work against the Orioles. Tonight he faces an equally dangerous lineup of the Red Sox. While the Sox have been struggling to score runs early on this season, I’m not too concerned. The best plays in this game are the batters. Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
Boston
- David Ortiz – Ortiz has been pretty quiet in this series, but he is riding a 5 game hitting streak and he has always crushed RH pitching. After Nova got rocked in his last outing, he may not have the confidence that he needs against this tough Red Sox lineup.
- Additional Plays: Dustin Pedroia
New York
- Alfonso Soriano – Soriano and LH pitching is a combination that I love to target. He has hit LH pitching to a tune of a .900 OPS over the last 3 years and already has 2 HR’s off of lefties this season. Soriano has also homered in 2 straight games and should be locked in tonight against Doubront.
- Additional Plays: Carlos Beltran
