Pitcher Grind Down

Cody Anderson : FD: $6,000 — DK: $6,700

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 77.2 — SIERA: 4.79 — ERA: 3.48 — K%: 12.3% — BB%: 6.5% — HR/9: 0.9
Last 30 Days: IP: 29.2 — SIERA: 4.90 — ERA: 2.12 — K%: 15.4% — BB%: 10.3% — HR/9: 0.6

Minnesota Twins Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.302 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 21.2% (Rank: 23)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 18.2% (Rank: 4)
Pitches per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 12)

Analysis: Anderson is a low strikeout pitcher that should be avoided tonight. On the season, he has only struck out 12.3% of the batters that he has faced. While the Twins do not hit right-handed pitching well as a team, they are in a good spot tonight at home. There is more risk than potential reward tonight with Anderson.

Pitcher Rating: 45.3

Kyle Gibson : FD: $6,500 — DK: $7,200

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 365.1 — SIERA: 4.19 — ERA: 4.09 — K%: 15.5% — BB%: 7.7% — HR/9: 0.7
Last 30 Days: IP: 39.1 — SIERA: 4.26 — ERA: 2.75 — K%: 16.2% — BB%: 8.1% — HR/9: 0.0

Cleveland Indians Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 18.5% (Rank: 5)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.350 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 17.8% (Rank: 2)
Pitches per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 4)

Analysis: Gibson has been in decent form recently, posting a 4.26 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 16.2% over the last month of play. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Indians, who are ranked 16th in team wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Gibson isn’t the worst play on the board, but he’s not the best play either.

Pitcher Rating: 52.7

Cleveland

The Indians draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Kyle Gibson, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .305 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Indians are in play here, but their hitters are secondary options at their respective positions.

Minnesota

The Twins draw a favorable matchup tonight against Cody Anderson, who has had trouble generating swings and misses this season. The left-handed hitters have the edge in this matchup, as Anderson has allowed a .329 wOBA to hitters from that side of the plate.

Madison Bumgarner : FD: $12,800 — DK: $12,200

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 423.0 — SIERA: 2.99 — ERA: 2.91 — K%: 25.9% — BB%: 4.6% — HR/9: 0.8

San Diego Padres Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 23.0% (Rank: 25)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.312 (Rank: 20) — Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 14)
Pitches per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 13)

Analysis: Bumgarner is the premier pitching option in the evening slate of games. He has been sharp over the last month, posting a 2.87 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 28.3%. He draws a terrific matchup against the Padres, who are ranked 23rd in team wOBA and 25th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. He is also facing them in a pitcher-friendly ballpark. It’s hard to find a reason not to like him tonight.

Pitcher Rating: 93.4

Ian Kennedy : FD: $8,200 — DK: $7,600

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 358.1 — SIERA: 3.59 — ERA: 3.92 — K%: 24.1% — BB%: 7.9% — HR/9: 1.1
Last 30 Days: IP: 35.1 — SIERA: 3.24 — ERA: 4.58 — K%: 29.4% — BB%: 8.5% — HR/9: 0.8

San Francisco Giants Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.321 (Rank: 7) — Strikeout Rate: 18.5% (Rank: 5)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.332 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 21.7% (Rank: 17)
Pitches per PA: 3.77 (Rank: 23)

Analysis: Kennedy has a 4.58 ERA over the last month of play, but his indicators look good. During that stretch, he has a 3.24 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 29.4%. While he does have the benefit of playing at home in Petco Park, he draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Giants, who are ranked seventh in team wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Fire him up in tournaments, but lean to the safer options in cash games.

Pitcher Rating: 72.6

Batter Grind Down

San Francisco

The Giants draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Ian Kennedy. They have a low team total and they have to face him in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Buster Posey has had some success off of Kennedy in the past. He is really the only fantasy option on my radar in this one.

San Diego

The Padres loaded up on power right-handed hitters in the offseason, but they are still one of the worst offenses in baseball against left-handed pitching. They should be avoided tonight against Madison Bumgarner, who is tough on both left and right-handed hitters.
