Pitcher Grind Down
- Trevor Bauer – Bauer has struggled on the road this season with a 5.64 ERA. He is facing a Dodgers’ offense that is ranked 5th in the majors against RH pitching with a team .332 wOBA. With A-Gon finally warming up for the Dodgers, I’ll be avoiding Bauer today. Rating =4
Salaries: $5500 FD, $10245 DS, $13050 DD, $6200 DK, $62100 FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – Ryu is a sizable favorite today against the Indians. While the Indians’ lineup is littered with LHB’s, Ryu is a reverse splits pitcher that actually gives up a much higher wOBA to lefties. That said, I have mixed feelings on Ryu as the Indians do not hit LH pitching well as a team. I’ll rate him slightly above average. He’s in play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8200 FD, $17154 DS, $14000 DD, $9100 DK, $102400 FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
There really aren’t any plays that stand out here. Carlos Santana had been swinging a hot bat, but has cooled off over his last few games. I think there are better matchups to target.
LA Dodgers
Adrian Gonzalez – Apparently lighting Van Slyke’s shoe on fire lit A-Gon’s game up as well. He homered in last night’s game and increased his hitting streak to 5 games. He has a .372 wOBA against RH pitching this season and a favorable matchup against Bauer.
Additional Plays: Dee Gordon, Matt Kemp

Pitcher Grind Down
- Johnny Cueto – If you are playing in the early slate, you should be doing everything you can to fit Cueto in your lineup. He is facing the worst offense in baseball in the best pitcher’s park in baseball. Cueto is sporting a 1.88 ERA on the season while nearly averaging a strikeout per inning. I don’t like to make big predictions, but I think Cueto manages to throw a complete game today. Rating = 10
Salaries: $10300 FD, $24001 DS, $19150 DD, $11000 DK, $143200 FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Tyson Ross – Ross is a nice contrarian play if you want to fade Cueto. Ross has been close to unhittable at home this season with a 2.39 ERA and 63 K’s over 60 innings of work. The Reds offense has been pretty average against RH pitching and strike out at a decent clip (19.9%). He should pay off his salary, but he’s going to have a tough time picking up the win with Cueto pitching for the Reds. Rating = 7
Salaries: $6800 FD, $15305 DS, $15300 DD, $8400 DK, $85000 FF, $ SS, $ FTD

Cincinnati / San Diego
The total for this game is set at 6 runs. Yes, you read that right, 6 runs. Both pitchers are in play, but both offenses should be avoided.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyler Matzek – Matzek will be the 3rd rookie LH pitcher in a row to take the mound for the Rockies. He’s been pretty decent in his first 4 big league starts, but faces a surging Nationals’ offense that is ranked 6th against LH pitching this season. Matzek is the biggest underdog on the board and can safely be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5200 FD, $7979 DS, $13250 DD, $5600 DK, $62200 FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Doug Fister – Fister is a nice alternative to Cueto if you don’t want to spend up on your pitcher. He’s pretty cheap across the board and should easily pick up the win. The Nationals really hit LH pitching well and should provide Fister with plenty of run support. Fister got knocked around in his last outing, but should bounce back nicely today against the Rockies. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7700 FD, $13505 DS, $16750 DD, $8400 DK, $98400 FF, $ SS, $ FTD

Colorado
Troy Tulowitzki – We typically like to target Tulo against LH pitchers, but I don’t mind him as an upside play at SS today. He got the day off yesterday and should be back in the lineup for this one. Tulo still owns a .425 wOBA against RH pitching this season.
Additional Plays: Corey Dickerson
Washington
Anthony Rendon – Rendon continues to crush LH pitching. He has a .420 wOBA against southpaws this season and has been swinging a hot bat with 9 hits over his last 6 games.
Additional Plays: Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper

Pitcher Grind Down
- Miles Mikolas – Mikolas has appeared in a few major league games, but will draw his first major league start tonight. He has pitched well in this minors this season and has a terrific K/BB ratio. That said, he draws an extremely tough matchup against the Orioles tonight. The Orioles have the 2nd most multi-HR games of any team in baseball. Take a wait and see approach on Mikolas. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5000 FD, $NA DS, $NA DD, $4700 DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $NA FTD
- Chris Tillman – Tillman had an impressive month of June and will look to continue that success into July. He has also pitched very well at home this season with a 2.47 ERA. Tillman is going to fly under the radar tonight, but he’s a big favorite and his price is extremely cheap across the board. I like him on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6100 FD, $10766 DS, $ DD, $6500 DK, $80800 FF, $16900 SS, $11200 FTD

Texas
Shin-Soo Choo – Choo’s numbers are down this season, but he’s always hit RH pitching well and Tillman has given up a .345 wOBA to LHB’s this season. His price is down far enough that he’s actually considered a value play on most sites.
Additional Plays: Adrian Beltre
Baltimore
Steve Pearce – Pearce is having a similar season to Chris Davis 2013 effort. While he’s not hitting as many HR’s, he has shown a ton of power and his production has basically come out of nowhere. He has 13 hits (5 HR’s) in his last 10 games and draws a nice matchup against the rookie.
Additional Plays: Nelson Cruz, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Chris Davis (GPP play at this point)

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chase Anderson – Anderson has pitched well in his rookie season, but isn’t a great fantasy option, even at his discounted price. He’s a sizable underdog against a very speedy Pirates’ offense. Anderson is not going to be highly owned and he can safely be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6200 FD, $10343 DS, $NA DD, $6400 DK, $79300 FF, $17600 SS, $12500 FTD
- Charlie Morton – Morton has been terrific at home this season. In 7 starts at PNC Park, he has posted a 2.22 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. The Diamondbacks lineup may look intimidating, but they are right around the league average in wOBA against RH pitching. Morton should have that sinker working today and he should produce a ton of groundouts. He makes a solid 2nd or 3rd starter on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $7200 FD, $14558 DS, $ DD, $8600 DK, $88800 FF, $22800 SS, $14400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Arizona
Miguel Montero – Morton’s biggest weakness is his inability to get out batters from the left side of the plate. He’s been better against LHB’s this season, but gave up a .380 wOBA to LHB’s in 2013. Montero is sporting a .383 wOBA against RH pitching this season.
Additional Plays: None
Pittsburgh
Gregory Polanco – Polanco is a spark plug. He got the day off yesterday, but pinch hit in the 9th and ended up being a part of a 3-run 9th inning comeback. He has been great against RH pitching and has a nice combination of both speed and power.
Additional Plays: Andrew McCutchen
