Major League Baseball has 10 games on tap to begin the new week! There are a number of notable names scheduled to be on the bump, including Sonny Gray and Tarik Skubal.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. It’s going to be hot in St. Louis tonight – forecast to be in the mid-90s around first pitch. The playing environment looks much more pitcher-friendly in San Francisco, with the temperature below 65 degrees in The Bay this evening.

Sonny Gray OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-210, BetMGM)
BETMGMTo say that Boston could use some length from Gray would be an understatement. After using a bullpen game on Sunday and playing extra innings on Thursday, the Red Sox have now used each of Brayan Bello, Jovani Moran, Tyron Guerrero, Erik Miller, Garrett Whitlock, and Aroldis Chapman 2 times in the last 4 days. Whitlock, Guerrero, and Moran have appeared 3 times in the last 5 days.
Gray has been hyper-efficient in recent weeks, averaging 3.5 pitches per batter faced during the last 30 days. Boston has been careful with his workload this season, but they’ve allowed him to face as many as 30 batters and throw as many as 97 pitches in the last month. This is likely a spot where they will do everything they can to get 18 outs from him, at least. Toronto is one of the more aggressive offenses in baseball, which should enable Gray to get deep into this game as long as he doesn’t get shelled.
Andrew Painter OVER 14.5 Outs Recorded (-155, bet365)
BET365Painter has struggled to a 5.13 xERA, 5.29 FIP, and 1.57 WHIP in 2026, but this might be a spot in which the Phillies give him a longer leash. The Phillies arm barn is in rough shape heading into the new week after playing in extra innings yesterday. Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering, and Brooks Raley each pitched on Saturday and Sunday. Tim Mayza and Caleb Kilian have each thrown in 2 of the last 3 days.
Painter was limited to 17 batters faced and 63 pitches in his most recent start, but he was allowed to face 23 batters and throw 82 pitches on July 31st against the Orioles. If Painter is reasonably effective, he should have every opportunity to get through 5 innings.
Reid Detmers UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-130, bet365)
BET365Since June 21st, Detmers has struggled to a 5.05 ERA, 5.20 xERA, 4.92 FIP, and 1.29 WHIP across 8 starts. He’s allowed a 12.7% barrel rate and a 44.5% hard-hit rate in that span – both of which are significantly worse than the league average.
Last season, Detmers threw only 63.2 innings, operating as a reliever for the Angels. He’s already more than doubled that workload this season, having thrown 129 innings in his 23 starts.
The Angels are seemingly aware of this workload issue – they’ve limited Detmers to 20 batters faced or fewer in 4 of his last 5 starts. He hasn’t thrown more than 86 pitches in a game since July 3rd.
The Angels have a rested arm barn heading into the new week, which should allow them to continue being cautious with Detmers. I have him projected for 21 batters faced.
