MLB Player Props Today

Jose Ramirez u1.5 Total Bases (-130), BetMGM

Jameson Taillon has been a trainwreck against left-handed batters this season, but there is reason to believe that he finds some success on Sunday. Looking at the forecast, winds are expected to be blowing in nearly 10 miles-per-hour from left field around first pitch, which is a major hindrance for batters who put the ball in the air frequently. Across the platoon, Taillon is allowing a 53.2% fly ball rate in 2023, which could actually benefit him in this spot against Jose Ramirez, who has a 45.6% fly ball rate against right-handed pitching this year. Take the under in this spot.

Josh Naylor u1.5 Total Bases (-115), BetMGM

Similar to his other left-handed hitting teammates, Josh Naylor could have trouble garnering multiple total bases at Wrigley Field on Sunday. Wrigley Field is one of the oldest ballparks in the MLB, and its construction allows wind to play a major role in home games for the Chicago Cubs on a daily basis. In January 2007, Chris Constancio documented in The Hardball Times that “more than 23% of fly balls result in home runs when the wind is blowing strongly toward the ivy-covered outfield walls, but only 13% of fly balls result in home runs when the wind is blowing in from the outfield.” Today, the winds are likely to be blowing in over 10 miles-per-hour around first pitch, which is going to make life very difficult for batters such as Naylor to have a productive performance at the dish.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Kris Bryant less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

In 2022, Matt Manning posted a pedestrian 20.3% strikeout rate against right-handed batters. In a small sample size to begin 2023, Manning’s strikeout numbers look extremely similar. This season, Kris Bryant has struck out in only 12.9% of his plate appearances against right-handed pitchers when playing at Coors Field. Trust Bryant to put the ball in play each time he steps in the box this afternoon.
