Happy Opening Day! Major League Baseball is back in full force today with an exciting 13-game slate to begin the regular season. A couple of postponements on the East Coast have delayed the beginning of action today, with the first pitch now scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET between the Angels and Orioles.

Giancarlo Stanton OVER 1.5 Total Bases (+135), DraftKings
If there is one thing that Giancarlo Stanton has always done, regardless of health, it has been mash against left-handed pitching (LHP). Even in 2023, which was his worst year as a professional, Stanton had a .265 batting average, .942 OPS, and 152 wRC+ against LHP. He hit 7 home runs in only 74 plate appearances against southpaws. At plus-money, this is a worthwhile risk.
Ketel Marte OVER 1.5 Total Bases (-140), Bet365
Ketel Marte is one of the better overall hitters in Major League Baseball, but he’s at his best against LHP. In 2023, he finished with a .313 batting average, .879 OPS, and 138 wRC+ against southpaws. In only 199 such plate appearances, Marte had 20 extra-base hits. Today, Marte gets to face Kyle Freeland, who has always struggled to generate swings and misses against right-handed batters (RHB) – even at his peak in 2018. At a minimum, Marte should be able to put the ball in play a few times today, which gives us a chance here. If we are fortunate, one or two of those balls in play will have quality exit velocity and find some outfield grass.
Chas McCormick o1.5 Total Bases (+145), Bet365
Chas McCormick has been a lefty-killer early in his career and 2023 was no different. Last season, he posted a .325 batting average, 1.008 OPS, and 177 wRC+ against LHP. Today, he gets to face Nestor Cortes, who struggled to a 4.71 FIP and 1.37 WHIP against RHB a season ago. At plus-money, McCormick is a worthwhile risk in this spot.
