Traditional MLB DFS formats aren’t the only way to profit from daily fantasy baseball. MLB PrizePicks is a great fantasy pick’em site where we can take today’s projections versus theirs and combine two or more baseball predictions for sizeable payouts.

In this space, we’ll explore a few PrizePicks plays for the upcoming MLB slate. This article isn’t the be-all, end-all of great plays or a recommendation for a full ticket; it’s simply a starting place for you to explore thinking about the game within the game. Maybe you want to scatter these plays across entries. Maybe there are only two or three you think are worth playing. Daily fantasy pick’em gives us the flexibility to make only the plays in which we think there is value rather than being forced to create a full lineup while competing against the best DFS players in the industry.

PrizePicks is daily fantasy baseball made simple, and our MLB PrizePicks picks tool makes the process even simpler.

MLB PrizePicks Predictions for Monday, June 24th

Jose Ramirez LESS Than 0.5 Strikeouts

I don’t play strikeouts very often, but when I do, it’s Jose Ramirez and his 11.5% K rate against lefties since the start of the 2023 season against a guy who can’t miss bats. Cade Povich has only faced 69 batters, but his whiff rate is just 20.2%, producing just a 13% overall K rate. Our pick’em tool doesn’t show a huge edge on this play, but it is one of the better plays on the board.

Shohei Ohtani LESS Than 11.5 Fantasy Points

We’re gonna just let it all hang out and get a little scary. Shohei Ohtani is a top-2 hitter in baseball with Aaron Judge because he can rip anyone, but Garrett Crochet is probably one of those guys in this league right now. One of those guys who can just mow down everyone — especially lefties. Crochet has only faced 54 lefties, but his K rate is up to 40.7% while allowing just a .242 wOBA and .041 ISO. Ohtani hitting at the top of the order diminishes his RBI opportunity a tick, and — as great as he is — he does have a 24.5% K rate against lefties since the start of the 2023 season. It’s always scary to bet against Ohtani for fantasy points, but we should trust the projection; that 11.5 is just an outrageous projection for anyone against a pitcher like Crochet. We have Ohtani projected for 10.3 fantasy points, which is a lot but still 10.4% below the PrizePicks projection.

Aaron Nola LESS Than 6.0 Strikeouts

Aaron Nola isn’t a that guy anymore, and the Tigers aren’t in the conversation with the A’s, Rockies, and Mariners for being the best strikeout matchup in the league. Sure, their K rate isn’t low, but 23.7% against righties isn’t all that exploitable when we’re talking about a pitcher with just a 22.2% K rate. Nola hasn’t passed 6 Ks in any of his last 6 starts. We have Nola projected to continue this streak for just 5.3 Ks on the evening.

Spencer Schwellenbach MORE Than 15.5 Outs and MORE Than 24 Fantasy Points

The continued disrespect for Spencer Schwellenbach has to be enforced by us. He’s thrown 89, 89, 85, and 88 pitches in each of his 4 starts, going 6 IP in his last 2. One of which was a quality start against the Orioles. The Cardinals are no damn good. They have just a .306 wOBA and .152 ISO against righties, while Schwellenbach has surrendered just 1 barrel through 92 batters faced. He should go deep and compile a decent amount of fantasy points. We have him projected for 15.8 outs and 26.4 fantasy points. It’s not a smash, but his floor is pretty high, while his ceiling is yet another quality start and a win.

All projections referenced are accurate at the time of writing but subject to change.

I’m maxing out the plays in my contests to attack standard projections but not playing many contests because our pick’em tool isn’t showing many edges, as the PrizePicks projections are fairly tight. Exercise caution and have fun with a low volume of 5-6 plays per ticket to risk a little in order to win a lot.
