MLB Parlay Piece for May 30, 2023

Nestor Cortes 7+ strikeouts (+144)

In 10 starts this year, Nestor Cortes has recorded at least seven strikeouts three times – against the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, and Minnesota Twins. The Angels and Twins both rank 26th or worse in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching during the month of May, but the Rangers are 10th in that metric. Entering play on Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners rank 25th in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching this month, which makes them among the most favorable matchups in the league for Cortes this evening. Combining Seattle’s swing-and-miss tendencies with the fact that the New York Yankees pitching staff could use some length from their starting pitcher – this is a worthwhile mini-ladder opportunity for bettors tonight.

Logan Gilbert u5.5 strikeouts (+120)

Perhaps shockingly, the New York Yankees have struck out less than only four teams in baseball against right-handed pitching during the month of May. This fact remains, despite having struck out 10 times against Hunter Greene, 10 times against Kevin Gausman, and nine times against Zach Eflin across the last two weeks. Put another way – the Yankees lineup is volatile from night to night, making them a somewhat unpredictable betting option. Nevertheless, Gilbert has only been casually eclipsing this market number this season – landing on exactly six strikeouts in four of his 10 starts. In a tough matchup tonight, the under is certainly in play at plus-money.

Yankees ML (+120)

During the month of May, the Seattle Mariners’ offense ranks 20th in OPS, 18th in ISO, 22nd in walk rate, and 25th in strikeout percentage against southpaws. Though Nestor Cortes enters play with an uninspiring 5.30 ERA this season, his 3.69 xERA and 4.78 FIP offer hope for positive regression. The New York Yankees took care of business on Monday night, putting to bed any concerns that bettors may have related to the long trip across the country to the state of Washington. At plus money, this is good value on Tuesday.
