Using Defense versus Position data, every projected starter is listed along with his opponent’s rank in points allowed to players of his position. These color-coded charts will help you spot the best matchups of the night at a glance.
Every game is also broken down by our NBA experts, providing an overview of the game and a selection of players to consider from each contest.

Toronto Raptors
Series Record: 2-2
- Toronto Raptors Offense
Points Scored Per Game: 102.7 (13 of 30)
Implied Team Total: 93.5 (4 of 4)
The Raptors got off to a hot start in Game 4 and then weathered the storm in the second half to even the series at two games a piece. It’s crazy how much the media overreacts after each game of the series, as only two games ago, they were saying that the Raptors had no chance in the series. I still like the Cavaliers to win this in six games, but at least we have a series now. The Raptors head to Cleveland for an all-important Game 5. They are listed as 10.5-point underdogs with by far the lowest team total on the board at only 94.5 points. It sounds like Jonas Valanciunas will be active for this game, but he will likely see limited minutes. If anything, his return just hurts the appeal of Bismack Biyombo.

Lowry and DeRozan combined for 77 points in Game 4, which was the most that they have ever scored in a single game together. They carried their team to a victory on the strength of some great shooting. It’s hard to imagine them shooting the ball that well in Cleveland though, especially if the Cavaliers make adjustments defensively. I still like Lowry as a GPP play, but am leaning toward playing Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, and/or Kyrie Irving in cash games.

DeRozan backed up his 44 fantasy point outing in Game 3 with a 40 fantasy point outing in Game 4. While that’s certainly impressive, he only averaged 26 fantasy points per game in Cleveland in the first two games of the series. DeRozan is a borderline elite play on DraftKings at a price of $7,300, but he is more of a GPP play on FanDuel. With the Warriors in a must-win game at home, I prefer Klay Thompson at a similar price point.

If you are looking for a punt play on DraftKings, Joseph offers nice value at a price of only $3,400. Even if this game gets out of hand, he should play 20+ minutes regardless. He has played well in each of the last three games, scoring 25, 23, and 15 fantasy points. Rostering Joseph also allows you to afford some of the more expensive players.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Series Record: 2-2
- Cleveland Cavaliers Offense
Points Scored Per Game: 104.3 (8 of 30)
Implied Team Total: 104.5 (3 of 4)
The Cavaliers didn’t look great in the two games in Toronto. While I am and never will be an NBA coach, I can’t figure out why Kevin Love hasn’t played a single minute in either of the last two fourth quarters. I get that Channing Frye was playing well, but the last thing the Cavaliers need right now is drama in the locker room. Even amidst the turmoil, all will be right with the world if and when the Cavaliers take care of business at home in Game 5. They are 10.5-point favorites with an implied team total of 105 points. I have a hard time seeing the Raptors beating the Cavaliers in Cleveland.

Outside of Russell Westbrook, James may be the safest play on the board in terms of his floor. He has basically been a lock for 40+ fantasy points, regardless of how each game has played out. With the series tied at two games a piece, James may put the team on his back in Game 5. The only concern here is that the Cavaliers are double-digit favorites and we saw what happened to his playing time in the first two games of the series (28 and 34 minutes).

Irving struggled in Game 3, but has otherwise been terrific in this series. In the other three games, he has scored 43, 34, and 37 fantasy points, respectively. If you want to fade Westbrook or Curry, Irving is a great pivot in both cash games and tournaments. He is a little expensive on DraftKings, but I see Irving as an elite play on FanDuel. He is considerably cheaper than Kyle Lowry and Stephen Curry continues to struggle against the Thunder.

Love hasn’t played well at all in this series. He hasn’t shot the ball well, he hasn’t rebounded the ball well, and he just looks lost on the floor. He was outplayed by Channing Frye in Game 4 and didn’t leave the bench in the fourth quarter. While I have little confidence in Love right now, he is a decent play on FanDuel where we have to roster two power forwards.

Smith scored 30 fantasy points in Game 3, but has scored 16 fantasy points or fewer in each of the other three games in this series. I’m a big fan of his price point, but his usage rate has gone down in the postseason. Dollar for dollar, I prefer Dion Waiters and potentially even Andre Roberson. Both have played very well in their series against the Warriors.

Lue hinted that we may see a lot of Frye at the five tonight. While that could just be coach speak, it has my interest piqued. If we can project Frye to play 22-25 minutes, he would instantly become one of the top value plays on the board. He has played very well so far in this series, scoring 23 and 21 fantasy points in the last two games.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Series Record: 3-1
- Oklahoma City Thunder Offense
Points Scored Per Game: 110.2 (2 of 30)
Implied Team Total: 106.5 (2 of 4)
The Thunder became the first team since the Showtime Lakers to put up 72+ points in the first half of back-to-back games. They are peaking at all levels right now. Their players are playing the best that they have all season and Billy Donovan is out-coaching Steve Kerr. The job is far from done though, as they still have to beat the Warriors one more time before advancing to the NBA Finals. If we assume that the Warriors can win Game 5 at home, that basically leaves a Game 6 in Oklahoma City that could very well decide the series. While I have no idea what will happen, I will certainly be watching.

It’s official: Westbrook is not human. I have been thinking this for a while now, but Game 4 proved that he is some type of Cyborg. He had a triple-double (with 30+ points) with ten minutes to go in the fourth quarter. He has outplayed Stephen Curry in this series and he has been great on both ends of the floor. Even though the Thunder are underdogs in Game 5, Westbrook remains the top overall play at any position.

Durant is coming off of his best game of the series, scoring 56 fantasy points in 41 minutes of action. He remains an elite play heading into Game 5, as the Warriors have had no answer for him curling off of those down screens. Both of the games in this slate have similar blowout potential, so when deciding between Durant and LeBron James, we are splitting hairs. I will give a slight edge to James, as the Cavaliers are in more of a must win situation.

Ibaka has played well on both ends of the floor in this series. He is averaging over 25 fantasy points per game and he is seeing minutes in the low to mid-30s in each game. With Kevin Love playing so poorly and Patrick Patterson minutes in jeopardy with Jonas Valanciunas out, Ibaka is the safest play at power forward.

Adams didn’t play in the fourth quarter in Game 4, but don’t take that as a bad sign. The Thunder were rolling at that point and with all of his minor injuries, they didn’t feel the need to put him back in the game. With Jonas Valanciunas potentially playing in Game 5 of the Raptors/Cavaliers series, Adams is a safer play than Bismack Biyombo.

Waiters has been a strong value play in this series. He has played at least 29 minutes and has scored at least 15 fantasy points in all four games. He should be able to continue that streak in Game 5, even though the game is on the road. He remains the best value at shooting guard.

Roberson didn’t look like himself in Game 4, and that is meant to be a compliment. He broke out with a 50 fantasy point outing against the Warriors. We shouldn’t expect anything close to that in Game 5, but he may have earned himself a few more minutes moving forward. This feels a bit like chasing points, but Roberson has scored at least 18 fantasy points in three of the first four games in the series.

All we are going to hear for the next couple of days is how the Warriors are choking, how Stephen Curry is possibly hurt, and how awful Draymond Green has played. While the Warriors have not looked like themselves, we have to give credit to the Thunder. They are playing at a completely different level than any other team left in the postseason. The Warriors have an uphill climb to return to the finals, but it’s certainly not out of reach. All they need to do right now is take care of business at home. They are listed as 7.5-point favorites and they have only lost two games at home all season. I expect them to force a Game 6 back in Oklahoma City.

This is the first time in this series that I have Stephen Curry listed as a secondary play. At this point, it’s tough to know whether he is playing hurt or whether the Thunder have just knocked him off of his game. Either way, I am planning to use Thompson as a main building block in my lineups. He caught fire in the second half of Game 4 and the Warriors are going to lean heavily on him in Game 5.

I don’t know if Curry is hurt or not, but the Thunder are certainly making him work for it. They are switching almost every screen and they are constantly throwing double teams at him. Curry has had a lot of open looks though, he just hasn’t been able to catch fire. I’m not putting that past him, but I will probably only be using him as a GPP play.
