NFL DFS Injury Summary: Reviewing Week 8

Injuries are a big part of daily fantasy sports on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo. NFL DFS requires us to know the status of every player, and it’s important that we keep tabs on them for a number of reasons. Each week in NFL DFS will undoubtedly bring new injuries to the forefront, and in this article we will look back and discuss how last week’s injuries will impact this week’s projections and projected ownership.

Let’s review the NFL DFS landscape and see who we will need to adjust for in the coming slates. All of the relevant injuries here will appear in our NFL DFS Injury Report each week.

Today’s NFL DFS Top Injury Report from Week 8

George Kittle

NFL Team: San Francisco 49ers
Position: TE
Injury Type: ankle
Next Week Status: questionable
Expected To Miss: TBD based on Monday’s MRI results

Kittle hobbled off of the field with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. And while x-rays taken in the locker room did not reveal any fractures, he is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to get a better idea of what kind of injury he is dealing with.

The 49ers have a quick turnaround for Week 9, as they are set to host the Packers on Thursday night. It is possible that they get Jordan Reed back for that game, which would soften the blow if Kittle is unable to suit up. Remember, San Francisco was already down a bunch of skill position players prior to the Seahawks game (e.g. Mostert, Wilson, Samuel), and Coleman and Garoppolo left the game with injuries as well. It is very possible that a bunch of cheap value opens up on this team for those playing the single-game Thursday slates or the Thursday-Sunday slates.

Darrell Henderson

NFL Team: Los Angeles Rams
Position: RB
Injury Type: thigh
Next Week Status: bye Week 9; questionable for Week 10
Expected To Miss: TBD

We’ll see if this thigh injury is enough to keep Henderson out for Week 10. If it does, that will make the Rams backfield a little easier to navigate, which is something that we haven’t really been able to say all season.

For example, you have Sean McVay getting everyone’s hopes up on Cam Akers prior to their Week 6 game against San Francisco. The snap rates from the running backs in that game?

Henderson: 53%
Malcolm Brown: 45%
Akers: 2%

See what I mean?

That being said, even if Henderson is out for Week 10, it still won’t be easy figuring out who gets the lion’s share of the workload between Brown and Akers. But hey, picking between two is easier than picking between three.

Kenny Golladay

NFL Team: Detroit Lions
Position: WR
Injury Type: hip
Next Week Status: questionable
Expected To Miss: TBD

Golladay left Sunday’s game against the Colts with a hip injury and did not return. Whether or not he is able to suit up for the Week 9 matchup against the Vikings is going to be an important situation to monitor.

Why, you ask? Well, after what Davante Adams did to them yesterday (despite in a losing effort), the Vikings have now given up the second most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. So if this hip injury is minor enough to keep Golladay from missing Week 9, he is going to make for quite the appealing play on DraftKings at just $6,400 (he is $7,300 on FanDuel).

If Golladay is forced to sit out, however, then there is going to be plenty of volume that needs to be spread around to guys like Marvin Jones and T.J. Hockenson. Both are priced up a little more than I would have hoped (Jones had two TD’s against the Colts), but the standout matchup is going to put them in play on the Week 9 slate if Golladay is unable to suit up.
