Welcome back, my friends!

Dan Marino week was one to remember. I had plans with the family on Sunday, so I only put in two lineups last week. It was essentially the same lineup with a 2v2 swap. My value pieces in the early games all crushed, but I played Cam Ward in both lineups. I figured I could still have a decent day, but my chances of winning tournaments had to be close to zero after Ward put up a paltry 6 fantasy points. The afternoon games started, and I had Kimani Vidal and the Seahawks’ defense left. Both went absolutely nuclear, while a lot of the afternoon chalk struggled.

I am a rare breed in that I don’t open up my contests in DraftKings or FanDuel until after all of the games are over. I watch the games and track all of the statistics on my phone, so I generally have an idea of whether or not I’m going to have a good day. However, not checking always keeps the hope alive until the very end. Once the games ended, I opened the contests and couldn’t believe how well the lineup did. I ended up winning $50,000 on the one lineup ($4,000 on the other) and made a serious run at the Milly Maker. I’ve had some big scores before, but it’s been a while. The best part was that every player I had tagged from this article were in both lineups.

Could I have won the Milly Maker with Tyrod Taylor instead of a naked Cam Ward? Absolutely, but that would have left me with $700 remaining, which is something that I just don’t do in my hand builds. I know I would have upgraded Jalen Coker and used a different defense. We often think of what could have happened if we made a swap or two, but we never consider the fact that one swap could lead to another and another. This was also a small-field tournament lineup that I only threw into the Milly Maker because I had a $20 ticket that I needed to use on DraftKings. Anyway, it was an amazing week. I hope some of you crushed as well.

We now turn our attention to Week 14. It’s going to be tough to top Marino week, but we will certainly try. We’ve dedicated weeks to players from all sports, but it’s only right that we pick another quarterback after last week for our retired athlete theme. For Week 14, we are rolling with none other than Ryan Fitzpatrick, aka Fitzmagic. He was the Jameis Winston before Jameis Winston. You could play Fitzpatrick with the opposing defense because he loved to take chances, and those chances would often result in a pick-six for the other team.

Here are a couple of memorable quotes:

When asked about his beard:

“The beard has magic powers. When I shave it, I lose some of my strength.”

When asked about moving from starter to backup a lot in his career:

“Whatever my role is, I’m going to prepare like I’m the guy.”

I’m a big believer that a good mindset goes a long way in life. I know now that a beard has magical powers, so I’d better start growing mine out. Cheers to Fitzpatrick week – let’s keep it rolling!

NFL DFS Top Picks & Plays: Noto’s Key Personnel for Week 14

Last week was a slate that had a lot of value, but all of the superstars were priced at a premium. The superstars are still priced up this week, but now the value plays are all a little more expensive as well. It’s a tough slate to build lineups at the moment, but we are waiting on quite a few injuries, so there’s a chance we’ll have some better value plays by Sunday morning. As always, you can find my latest Core Play tags in our NFL DFS, LineupHQ.

Top Quarterback Plays

Tier 1 – Core Plays

Rams quarterback Stafford

Matthew Stafford ($6,900 DK / $8,000 FD) is going to garner some ownership on FanDuel, but he’s flying under the radar on DraftKings. The Rams are coming off a bad loss against the Panthers and will look to take some of their anger out on a division rival in the Cardinals. Over the last 4 games, Arizona has given up an average of 33 points to its opponents. We know Sean McVay doesn’t mind running up the score, and Stafford needs a big game to keep pace in the MVP race. You can single- or double-stack Stafford, and there are two obvious bring-backs on the Cardinals.

I have tried to avoid the quarterback on my favorite team this season, but I’m finally ready to trust Trevor Lawrence ($5,400 DK / $7,100 FD) in DFS. He’s rushed for at least 24 yards in 4 of the last 5 games, and he has topped 20 fantasy points in 3 of the last 5 games. With Jakobi Meyers on board and Brenton Strange back from injury, he has some of the best weapons of any quarterback in the NFL. He draws a nice matchup at home against the Colts, who are middling at best against the pass. The Jaguars have a healthy team total of 23 points.

Tier 2 – Strong Plays

Packers quarterback Love

I was scrolling through Twitter earlier this week and saw one of the funniest statistics of all time. During Toyotathon, Jordan Love ($5,900 DK / $7,400 FD) is 1st in the NFL in passer rating with 33 touchdowns and 1 interception. While hilarious, correlation doesn’t always mean causation. Even if you don’t think Love steps up his game because it’s Toyota’s biggest sales event, he still looks like a strong option in DFS this week. The Bears have allowed the 3rd-most fantasy points to quarterbacks and have struggled to defend the deep ball. Fire up those Love to Christian Watson stacks.

It doesn’t seem to matter the week – Jacoby Brissett ($5,700 DK / $7,200 FD) is going to put up 20+ fantasy points. At this point, I’m not sure why we should try to fight it. He doesn’t project as well as he has the last few weeks, which means he’ll be much lower owned despite having two obvious stacking partners (assuming Marvin Harrison Jr. is out). The Cardinals will have to air it out in this one, as they are 8.5-point underdogs at home against the Rams. Being a home underdog has long been a good spot for quarterback production in fantasy football.

Tier 3 – Sprinkle Plays

Washington quarterback Mariota

Tyrod Taylor ($4,900 DK / $6,700 FD) is coming off his best game of the season. He didn’t wow statistically, but he threw for a touchdown and ran for another one. He’s still affordable and draws an excellent matchup at home against the Dolphins, who are 29th in EPA allowed per dropback and 23rd in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Taylor doesn’t have a super-high ceiling, but 20+ fantasy points is certainly in his range of outcomes.

Marcus Mariota ($5,000 DK / $6,800 FD) is going to be popular after torching the Broncos’ defense on Monday night. I’m hesitant to play him as the chalk, but he offers rushing upside and has Terry McLaurin back from injury. The Vikings have been very hit or miss on defense this season, but they are 10th in EPA allowed per dropback and 4th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.
