Welcome back to the Key Personnel!

Kevin Garnett week (Week 5) was a great one. The core plays crushed, and I had my best main slate of the season. A late stat correction bumped me a spot down in my highest-dollar GPP and cost me a couple of thousand dollars, but it was still an incredible week. I’ve learned to never complain about a profitable NFL DFS slate.

Since it worked so well with KG last week, we have to keep the retired athlete theme going. Week 6 is officially Jay Cutler week. His career was full of highs, lows, and amazing memes. One of my favorite memes of Cutler was of him saying, “Do I have a chip on my shoulder? I have a Dorito on my shoulder.”

Whether you prefer Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, Spicy Nacho, or Salsa Verde, let’s use that Doritos chip on our shoulder to have a big Week 6.

NFL DFS Top Picks & Plays: Noto’s Key Personnel for Week 6

Week 6 feels like an old-school DFS slate where the stars-and-scrubs lineups ruled the day. We have some great spends at both running back and wide receiver, which means we have to find values to make them work. I have my eye on quite a few value plays at quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end. You probably won’t love the way your lineups look this week, but that’s the nature of tighter pricing. Remember, everyone is in the same boat with pricing.

Top Quarterback Plays

We don’t have many of the true elite quarterbacks on this week’s main slate. A lot of the top fantasy producers at the position are not playing Sunday afternoon. Given the tight pricing overall, quarterback looks like a good position to save some salary.

Tier 1 – Core Plays

Patriots quarterback Maye

Drake Maye ($5,900 DK / $7,800 FD) makes my short list of quarterbacks every week. He didn’t seem to be playing up to expectations in the first 4 games of the season, yet he was still able to top 20 fantasy points in 3 of those games. I would argue that his performance against the Bills was his best to date even though it didn’t show up that way in the box score. Maye has already rushed for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, which gives him that coveted rushing floor. The Patriots have a healthy team total (24.5 points) against the Saints, who are 21st in EPA allowed per dropback and 24th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

While I love the Jaguars, I’m far from a Trevor Lawrence ($5,100 DK / $6,700 FD) truther. He’s been too inconsistent over the years for me to fully trust him in fantasy or as the sure quarterback of the future for the Jaguars. With that said, he’s coming off his best game of the season and led his team to a big comeback win over the Chiefs on Monday night. He has plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game and a decent matchup against the Seahawks, who are 22nd in EPA allowed per dropback. The Jaguars have been one of the best pass-blocking teams in the league this season, while Seattle has had a middling pressure rate. Lawrence should have plenty of time in the pocket this week.

Tier 2 – Strong Plays

Colts quarterback Jones

The Daniel Jones ($6,000 DK / $7,600 FD) resurgence has been fun to watch, especially since I rostered him far too often during his tenure with the Giants. As we saw last year with Saquon Barkley, perhaps getting out of New York was all he needed to showcase his abilities. Jones has topped 22 fantasy points in 3 of his first 5 games with the Colts, who have one of the highest team totals (27.5 points) on the board this week. They are playing at home against the Cardinals, who are 20th in PFF’s grades against the pass. My only concern here is if Arizona can provide enough pushback to keep Jones and the Colts aggressive on offense.

The Bryce Young ($4,800 DK / $7,000 FD) experiment has not worked in DFS this season, but he did have a nice stretch of games toward the end of last season. I wish he were running the ball more (fewer than 10 rushing yards in 4 straight games), but we can throw most metrics out the window when a quarterback is facing the Cowboys. They have allowed 30 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, which is easily the worst in the NFL. Young is cheap, he’s playing at home, and he has the best matchup on the slate. If there was ever a slate to target him, this is it.

Tier 3 – Sprinkle Plays

Chargers quarterback Herbert

Without their starting tackles, the Chargers have given up a ton of pressure in the last 2 games. This has led to Justin Herbert ($6,300 DK / $8,500 FD) scrambling for his life and to the Chargers no longer being at the top of the league in pass rate over expectation. Joe Alt and Mekhi Becton are both listed as questionable this week, so maybe they’ll get one or both of their tackles back. The positives are that Herbert has a ton of weapons and an elite matchup against the Dolphins, who are 30th in EPA allowed per dropback, 29th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, and 31st in PFF’s pass rush grades.

Dak Prescott ($6,500 DK / $8,000 FD) is having one of the best seasons of his career. He has topped 25 fantasy points in 3 of his last 4 games and has 10 passing touchdowns during that stretch. The big question this week is whether or not the Panthers will be able to provide enough pushback to turn this game into a shootout. I’m an eternal optimist, so I like our chances here. If so, Prescott will get to face a bad defense at low projected ownership. He makes for a strong tournament play, especially if you are trying to stack this game uniquely.
