NFL Week 10 Betting Picks – Rams at Steelers

The 2019-20 NFC season has not gone as expected for either of these teams. The Rams entered the season as conference and division favorites, but things have not turned out that way. Sean McVay’s squad currently sits third in the NFC West and would not be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Much like the Rams, the Steelers had hopes of winning their division, but an unexpected injury to Ben Roethlisberger threw a wrench into their plans. The Steelers now sit 4-4 and are a game back from the final AFC Wild Card spot.

With both teams fighting for their life, this game has significant implications for both the NFC and AFC playoff race. The Steelers may be a .500 team, but they are much better than their record appears. The Steelers have already played two teams which the Rams have lost to — the 49ers and the Seahawks — losing both games by a total of 6 points. The Steelers have actually been a good team with a rough schedule going against quite possibly the four best teams in the league in the Patriots, Seahawks, 49ers, and the Ravens. All four of their losses have come against those teams, and outside of the Patriots, no loss has been by more than four points. The Steelers come into this game winning four of their last five games while playing some really good football and sharply improvising with their personnel and play calling.

Much like the Steelers, the Rams have had a difficult schedule. They’ve faced the Saints, Seahawks, and the 49ers; as stated above, two of their three losses have come against teams that the Steelers already faced. One interesting part about this game is which to give more credence to between the Rams’ great betting record on the road or the Steelers’ great play at home. The Steelers have had a fantastic home field advantage over the years. Since the beginning of last year, the Rams have gone 9-4 ATS on the road compared to 5-6-1 ATS at home. The secret behind their ATS success on the road is no secret. Prior to returning to L.A., the city had no team to call their own. Now, for both the Rams and the Chargers, home-field advantage in a transplant city is mitigated as half of the stadium is filled with fans from the opposing team.

NFL Week 10 Betting Pick. While I generally like betting on the Rams on the road, I don’t think this is the right spot. With the line sitting at 3.5, I think that oddsmakers are giving too many points to the Steelers. Talent wise, Pittsburgh isn’t as far off from the Rams as many would like to believe. They have played very well recently and the public perception of them is far more bearish than it should be. They play great on defense and run the ball well, plus Mason Rudolph has been a serviceable game manager and this team has been coached very well. I think that the Steelers win this game straight up so I love the Steelers +3.5.
