What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Moneyball16: Large-field GPPs – In slates with both Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, it is important to consider how much defensemen play with forwards when considering pairing them together. Notoriously, the top pairings for the Oilers and Avalanche play a lot with their top centers. So if it comes down to playing Darnell Nurse or Mattias Ekholm with McDavid, you should go with Ekholm, as he plays 54.7% of his 5v5 minutes with McDavid compared to 31.9% for Nurse. If you can’t get up to Cale Makar with MacKinnon, you should go with Sam Girard over someone like Brent Burns because the top pair has played around 60.7% of their minutes with MacKinnon compared to only 21.3% for Burns. And then consider another stud, Macklin Celebrini, who doesn’t consistently play with any defenseman. Dmitri Orlov plays 41.8% of his minutes with Celebrini, which means they won’t correlate as much as MacKinnon and Makar do or McDavid and Evan Bouchard do.
boggslite: Large-field tournaments – There are several ways to approach this loaded slate, and my plan is to spread my exposure around based on matchups. Connor McDavid is my top target with a great matchup at home, but I will also have exposure to Buffalo, New Jersey, Columbus, and San Jose.
Joda: Large-field GPPs are my preferred format tonight. There is an abundance of offensive firepower in good matchups. My favorite targets are the Sabres, Oilers, and Sharks. The Flyers top line is intriguing too, as Lukas Dostal was forced into action last night, and we know the Ducks’ defensive struggles. Columbus also has some interesting pieces if you prefer that side of the game for the late-night hammer.
Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
