Slate Overview
Today’s the last day of the slightly strange schedule due to a holiday week. Instead of the usual loaded slate, we have a tidy six-gamer in store for us. From a Vegas perspective, the late-night hammer games stand out with both the Golden Knights and Canucks coming in as the biggest favorites by a wide margin. On such a small slate, ownership is going to be concentrated no matter what, but this should only concentrate things further. The Canucks are playing the Sharks, which will always inflate ownership. The Devils and Avalanche check in as the “Tier Two” teams, and I’d expect these four to soak up the majority of the ownership.
As for injuries, Bryan Rust will be out, while Timo Meier and Nico Hischier are questionable, although I’d be a little surprised if either of them play. The Devils don’t play again until Tuesday, so they’d get an extra two days to fully recover if there’s any doubt about their health. As always, check in with the NHL Discord channel, and we’ll make sure to keep everyone posted on the latest news. Goalies should be a challenge yet again, but I’ll save that for the goalie breakdown below. Grab those leftovers, pop them in the microwave, and let’s break it down.
Top Skaters
Jack Hughes
DraftKings $9,100
Jack Hughes has had quite a strange sequence of games since returning from injury. The first was probably the most normal with a goal, an assist, and eight shots on goal- a virtuoso performance. But since then, he’s had a complete stinker against the Red Wings with just a single SOG and no points. And then he rebounded in the SOG department with another 8-spot, but once again no points. Similar to Brady Tkachuk yesterday, Hughes has developed some significant home/road splits for shots on goal. At home, he’s averaging almost 5.0 SOG per game. On the road, he’s averaging under 3.00 per game. Against a Buffalo-team decimated with injuries, he and the Devils should be able to dictate the tempo and control the game.
