Today’s Games
Slate Overview
As I mentioned on Monday, Thanksgiving has thrown the NHL schedule out of whack, leaving us with no games tomorrow and a full slate today. And by full slate, I mean FULL slate. Like how you feel after getting seconds on Thanksgiving kind of full. Fourteen games of goodness for us to sink our teeth into. Given that we have plenty of football today, I’m great with loading up the puck on Wednesday. On DraftKings, they have a $25 Live Final Qualifier, so low-stakes players it’s your time to shine after seemingly expensive Qs for a while now.
On the injury front, Aleksander Barkov, Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and Evgeny Kuznetsov will remain out. Bryan Rust is questionable and a game-time decision. Currently, there are no other fantasy-relevant injuries worth monitoring. We have everyone’s favorite team on the slate (the Sharks) who face the Kraken in a late-night hammer spot. I don’t think it’s a complete slam dunk given that the Kraken aren’t great as a whole, and even when they do perform, the scoring can often be distributed across their lines. There are plenty of close spreads as many good teams are facing good teams and bad teams facing bad ones. That should lead to very distributed ownership, especially given the 28 teams to choose from.
Due to the large number of games (and a little bit more free time with a slow work day), I threw in an extra skater and goalie just to give options.
Top Skaters
Jack Hughes
DraftKings $9,200
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the top options above $9k, but I expect Hughes to potentially be one of the lowest-owned of the bunch. MacKinnon will gain some extra ownership because people will want to play the value in Nichushkin. Pastrnak will be ownership because he always does and can also be stacked cheaply with Zacha, who is on a bit of a goalscoring hot streak. That leaves Hughes, who is much tougher to stack due to his even-strength linemates not playing on the power play and his power play linemates being very expensive. Still, I think Hughes is completely viable as a one-off if you want to forego the decision on who to pair him with. He came back from injury and appeared to have no limitations with 21+ minutes of ice time, 8 shots on goal and 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist). Against a mediocre Red Wings team (especially defensively), Hughes could feast this evening.
