Penguins Offensive Outlook

5v5 (adj) (23 games): 61.15 CF/60 (9) | 60.19 CA/60 (7) | 2.47 xGF/60 (8) | 2.48 xGA/60 (6)

Pittsburgh’s offense has been slowing down a little bit but they remain a dangerous group. Patric Hornqvist is up on the top line, but the second line will have a big gap in the middle of the ice if Evgeni Malkin can’t suit up.

Boston represents a pretty tough matchup for an ailing Penguin squad. They don’t allow much in the way of shot attempt volume and have a respectable expected goal rate. Boston will also use the Bergeron line against the Crosby line.

That’s bad news for Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, and Conor Sheary. Crosby’s lines have struggled at 5v5 to thwart opposing offenses. Boston’s top line remains very strong at limiting chances at 5v5.

With Malkin hurt the second line will feature Jake Guentzel, Phil Kessel (in a #NarrativeStreet game) and Bryan Rust. Guentzel has been hot of late, but the luck will normalize soon enough. Kessel is always a danger as a speed demon at 5v5 away from top competition and a member of the top power play unit.

Penguins Special Teams Outlook
The Bruins have been one of the better penalty killing units in the league. They have a done a good job limiting scoring chances and high-danger shot attempts. Their overall shot attempts allowed are up a bit comparatively, but are still just middle of the pack.
